What does an Infant Nanny do?

An Infant Nanny is a professional caregiver who specializes in caring for babies, typically from newborn to around 12 months old. Their responsibilities include feeding, bathing, diapering, soothing, and engaging infants in age-appropriate activities to support early development. They also monitor the baby's health, maintain a safe environment, and may assist with establishing routines such as sleep and feeding schedules. Infant Nannies often work closely with parents to ensure the child's needs are met and provide regular updates on the baby’s progress.

What Does an Infant Nanny Do?

As an infant nanny, your responsibilities involve providing in-home childcare personalized to the needs of the family. You provide services for a newborn, generally during the first 12-16 weeks of life. Children of this age have unique requirements compared to older children. The tasks of an infant nanny are more than just watching the child. You may feed, sleep train, bathe, and interact with the baby, as well as assist parents with other duties, such as doing laundry and cleaning related to the child. An infant nanny may also transport the newborn to doctor's appointments. You may work overnight shifts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Infant Nanny, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Infant Nanny, you need experience in infant care, knowledge of child development, and often first aid and CPR certification. Familiarity with baby monitors, feeding schedules, and safety equipment is typically required. Patience, excellent communication, and a nurturing demeanor are standout soft skills for building trust with both infants and parents. These skills are crucial for ensuring the infant's safety, healthy development, and fostering a supportive environment for families.
