Description
Creativity. Innovation. A desire to effect positive change. That's what it takes to work at Fuss & O'Neill - because that's what we do for the communities in which we work: we create, innovate, and design long-lasting improvements that improve quality of life. Quality of life is also important on the job, so we've prioritized work-life balance by offering flexible/remote work opportunities, part-time benefits, and generous PTO. We believe that each day is an opportunity to support one another, to support our clients, and to support our communities. If you feel the same, then you've found your future.
Fuss & O'Neill's Manufacturing Solutions team is seeking a hands-on Industrial Services Specialist to help manufacturers throughout New England create safer, more efficient production environments. In this role, you'll support the full lifecycle of machine safety projects-from conducting machine risk assessments and developing practical risk mitigation strategies to designing, installing, and integrating custom machine guarding solutions with industrial control systems. You'll also play a key role in developing and implementing equipment-specific Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, Electrical Safe Works Practices, supporting regulatory compliance, and helping clients build safer, more reliable manufacturing operations.
Working with a diverse range of manufacturing clients, you'll combine both hands-on and field experience to solve complex machinery safety challenges. Whether evaluating existing equipment, assisting with the design of innovative safeguarding solutions, commissioning safety systems, or collaborating directly with client teams, you'll have the opportunity to make a tangible impact on employee safety, operational performance, and regulatory compliance.
This position is ideal for a technically driven professional who enjoys balancing design, hands-on implementation, problem-solving, and client partnership while helping shape safer workplaces across the manufacturing industry.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Safety Assessments & Compliance
  • Conduct comprehensive machine risk assessments for new and existing manufacturing equipment
  • Evaluate equipment against OSHA and ANSI machine safety standards
  • Identify hazards, document findings, and develop prioritized corrective action plans
  • Provide practical recommendations that improve safety while maintaining operational efficiency

Machine Guarding Design & Installation
  • Design custom machine guards, barriers, and safety enclosures using CAD software
  • Develop guarding solutions utilizing materials such as polycarbonate, sheet metal, and wire mesh
  • Support or perform fabrication, installation, fit-up, and modifications in manufacturing environments
  • Verify installed guarding meets both functional and regulatory requirements

Automation & Safety Controls
  • Integrate machine safety devices including:
    • Light curtains
    • Safety interlocks
    • Emergency stop systems
    • Pressure-sensitive mats
    • Other safeguarding technologies
  • Configure and troubleshoot safety relays and safety PLCs
  • Interface guarding systems with existing machine controls and automation systems
  • Commission and validate integrated safety systems to verify proper operation

Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) & Safety Programs
  • Develop and maintain equipment-specific Lockout/Tagout procedures
  • Conduct OSHA 1910.147 energy control audits
  • Provide technical training on machine guarding and LOTO best practices
  • Support additional manufacturing safety initiatives including equipment inspections, compliance audits, and continuous safety improvements

Electrical Safe Work Practices
  • Collect electrical infrastructure information
  • Coordinate electrical system analysis
  • Perform or provide electrical safety training for qualified employees

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Associate degree or higher in a related technical discipline required
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with machine guarding, machinery safety, industrial automation, manufacturing engineering, or a related field strongly preferred
  • Familiarity of OSHA General Industry Standards and ANSI B11 standards
  • Working knowledge of CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD for designing machine guards and safety solutions strongly preferred
  • Experience with industrial automation, electrical schematics, safety PLCs, safety relays, and machine control integration strongly preferred
  • Ability to support the design, fabrication installation, troubleshooting, and commission machine guarding systems in manufacturing environments
  • Comfortable working hands-on with production equipment and using tools for guard installation, adjustment, and modifications
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with manufacturing, maintenance, and operations teams
