GAI Consultants, Inc is seeking an experienced Roadway Project Engineer to work within our Indiana Transportation Team. The successful candidate will be a hard-working individual who enjoys a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment. The candidate will use their related experience to jump right into a variety of new projects for INDOT and Local Municipalities that are in the early phases of design. Our Midwest Roadway Team is looking for a candidate who is willing to share their expertise through teaching others, but also eager to learn new skills and grow professionally in today's global environment. This position is eligible for GAI's flexible hybrid work schedules.

Job Duties:

  • Roadway design for INDOT and Local Public Agency (LPA) clients
  • Creates and reviews project design calculations, quantities takeoffs, specifications, plans and contract documents.
  • Works within the Transportation Team assigning responsibilities.
  • Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of engineering work.
  • Attend project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.
  • Conduct analysis choosing appropriate applications.
  • Works within the Transportation Team assigning responsibilities.
  • Works within project schedules and budgets.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and or mentoring to junior engineers in the development of plans, reports, and specifications.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Applies INDOT design manual and AAHTO principles to highway design.
  • Utilizes roadway design CADD software.
  • Knowledge of Road design software such as Open Roads
  • Participate in occasional site visits in construction sites and remote outdoor work environments.
  • Occasional travel to client meetings and site visits.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • Professional Engineer's license in Indiana or the ability to obtain through reciprocity within 6 months.
  • Strong team collaboration, oral and written communication, design expertise, and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Experience with INDOT standards, specifications, and deliverables for Federally Funded Projects
  • Proficiency in CADD

  • Applies thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering related to the variety of aspects affecting their organization.
  • Applies progressively acquired expertise to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions.
  • Keeps informed of new methods and developments affecting their organization and recommends new practices or changes in emphasis of programs.
  • Leads programs of moderate complexity and scope or leads a major project.
  • Analyzes complex problems across specialty areas appropriate to the practice of engineering.
  • Analyzes ethical dilemmas to determine appropriate courses of action.

Experience

  • 14+ years of experience.

Education

  • B.S. Engineering

Certification/Licensure

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License, reciprocity in multiple states.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Serves as the technical advisor for the organization in the application of advanced concepts and methods in an assigned area.
  • Keeps informed of new developments and requirements affecting the organization for the purpose of recommending changes in programs or applications.
  • Develops new techniques and/or improved processes, materials, or products.
  • Values and analyzes sustainable performance of complex engineering projects from a systems perspective.

Project and Task Management

  • Oversees a project team of engineers and technicians.
  • Plans, schedules, and coordinates the preparation of documents or activities for multiple major projects or is responsible for an entire program of an organization.
  • Analyzes project management plans for complex engineering projects.
  • Understands project delivery uncertainties and uses risk management principles to address them.
  • Reviews operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Management, Supervision and Guidance
  • Receives administrative supervision with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
  • Provides continued mentored experience to senior staff.
