JOB OPENING

CITY OF FARMINGTON

JOB POSITION #84: Indian Center Aide

NUMBER OF VACANCIES: 1

DEPARTMENT: Cultural Affairs

WORK LOCATION: Farmington Indian Center

TYPE OF POSITION: Temporary, Part-time

HIRING WAGE: $12.75 per hour

DAYS WORKED: Varies

JOB DUTIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Works part-time under the supervision of the Farmington Indian Center (FIC) Director, unless otherwise instructed.

Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.

Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.

Knowledge and ability to assist in preparing Navajo cultural food.

Serves meals to patrons according to established rules of etiquette, working in formal setting.

Writes order on check, relays order to kitchen, and serves courses from kitchen counter.

Receives full trays from kitchen, services salad bars, and serves drinks.

Observes diners to respond to any additional requests and to determine when meal has been completed.

Ladles soup, tosses salads, portions pies and desserts, brews coffee, and performs other services.

Clears and resets counters or tables at conclusion of each course or end of day.

Decorates dining area in accordance with special days, such as Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Aprons, hair nets, caps or chef hats, shall be worn by all food service workers.

Sweeps, mops, or vacuums dining room floor/carpet daily.

Keep food and temperature logs up to date and other daily, weekly, and monthly reports.

Participates in emergency drills, environmental safety activities, documents safety protocol.

Assists with events and programs as needed throughout Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs (PRCA).

Wears close-toed shoes and appropriate clothing.

Operates cash register and prepares deposits with peripheral electronic processing equipment.

Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

Unless assigned by the Director, Indian Center Aide is not permitted to cook meals.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Works other related FIC activities within the Farmington Indian Center as needed.

Other duties may be assigned, such as after-hours work or work on weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Program which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing and follow-up testing.

A pre-employment physical and or drug/alcohol test is required for this position.

High School Diploma or Equivalent GED.

ANSI certificated Food Handler Certification preferred, may be obtained through City classes after entry into employment within 90 days.

Ability to work harmoniously and courteously.

At least one (1) year of experience as wait staff.

Knowledge of modern food service operations.

Ability to speak and understand the Navajo Language preferred, but not required.

Customer service skills required.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Operates various kitchen appliances, utensils, freezer, and other food service equipment, washer/dryer, microwave oven, broom, mop, motor vehicle, telephone, computer, fax machine, copy machine and calculator.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Indian Center Aide shall read and understand the general food service provisions, procedures, and requirements as set for by New Mexico Environment Department for Food Service and Processor Regulations.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
