Position Summary

Our client, a premier structural engineering firm specializing in large-scale data centers, commercial, institutional, and aviation projects, is seeking a highly detailed Miscellaneous Steel Checker for their Brentwood, TN office. You will serve as the final quality control authority, ensuring that shop drawings for complex miscellaneous steel—including stairs, handrails, ladders, and platforms—are 100% accurate, fabricator-ready, and fully compliant with industry standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Quality Assurance: Perform technical reviews of structural and miscellaneous steel shop and erection drawings for accuracy, fit, and completeness.
  • Technical Compliance: Verify all designs strictly adhere to AISC, OSHA, and local building code requirements.
  • Miscellaneous Focus: Review high-complexity assemblies such as industrial stairs, guardrails, ladders, sump pit frames, and specialized medical/aviation supports.
  • Collaboration: Partner with in-house detailers and Project Managers to resolve modeling conflicts and clarify RFI responses.
  • BIM Coordination: Utilize Tekla Structures and Bluebeam to review 3D models and 2D outputs, ensuring alignment with architectural and mechanical sets.


Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 6–10 years of professional experience in structural or miscellaneous steel detailing and checking.
  • Software: Proficiency in Tekla Structures (highly preferred) or SDS/2. Proficiency in Bluebeam for redlining and document review.
  • Technical Mastery: In-depth knowledge of AISC standards and OSHA safety requirements for stairs and railings.
  • Background: A strong understanding of the fabrication and erection process; prior "shop floor" or field experience is highly valued.
