Job description

Resonant is a fast-moving tech company developing breakthrough RF chip technology for the smartphone in your pocket. As part of Murata, the #1 manufacturer of acoustic-wave filters, we are creating the next generation of filters for 5G, 6G, and Wi-Fi applications with our proprietary XBAR® technology. Resonant combines proprietary software development, unique 3D physical modeling, world class filter design, and massive cloud compute, creating a diverse and dynamic work environment. Come join us in reinventing the RF Front-End!

Why Consider This Job Opportunity

As a Staff Device Engineer on the Product Integration team, you will lead the development of physics‑based models to advance acoustic resonator performance, manufacturability, and reliability. You will work closely with the RF designer team, technology team, and software engineers to apply this deeper device‑level insight toward the development of high‑performance RF filters for mass production. This role provides a significant opportunity to shape key technical decisions, guide cross‑functional efforts, and apply your expertise to solve complex challenges in mobile device technology.

Workplace Policy

Hybrid from San Mateo, CA

What To Expect (Essential Job Responsibilities)
  • Lead the development and improvement of physics‑based models that enhance acoustic resonator simulation accuracy and support overall RF filter performance.
  • Direct the analysis of acoustic, electrical, and thermal behaviors to identify performance limits, trade‑offs, and mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee the review and interpretation of large‑scale RF data and measurement results to improve modeling fidelity and inform design and technology decisions.
  • Support experimentation, prototyping, and characterization activities that contribute to technology advancement and product development milestones.
  • Contribute to the continued development of XBAR device knowledge and participate in shaping long‑term technology direction.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineers working on device modeling, characterization, and performance optimization.
What Is Required (Qualifications)
  • Master’s or PhD in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of industry experience in device engineering, RF/acoustics, modeling, or semiconductor/MEMS.
  • Demonstrated ownership of major device models, methods, or systems with minimal supervision.
  • Strong expertise in acoustic/RF device modeling (XBAR, SAW, BAW, MEMS).
  • Proficient with Python, MATLAB, and FEM tools such as COMSOL or FEMTET.
  • Able to lead cross‑functional technical efforts and influence design or technology decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to mentor and support junior engineers.
How To Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Hands‑on experience with SAW, BAW, XBAR, or MEMS device design or characterization.
  • Background in semiconductor, MEMS, or acoustic filter fabrication and process integration.
  • Strong proficiency with FEM/multiphysics tools (e.g., COMSOL, FEMTET).
  • Experience supporting technology or product development for high‑volume commercial applications.
