Job description

This position reports to the Manager of Solar and Storage Ops Engineering and is responsible for BESS O&M support.

The Engineer in this role will be responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting and repairing faults by both doing the work himself and/or directing other technicians. Support also entails performing root cause analysis, and documenting findings. The Engineer will manage and resolve outages associated with battery pack controller, string controller, string balancing, low cell voltage, HVAC, environmental controls and fire protection system.

The position requires an in-depth knowledge of the Powin Stack 230 and Stack750/Centipede systems. It is expected of the Specialist to expand their knowledge to include other LRE BESS technologies including Sungrow and Fractal.

The Engineer will contribute to planning and executing capacity tests and round-trip efficiency tests as required by PPA agreements. He will be directly responsible for, or directing other technicians in installation and testing new BESS stacks as part of augmentation or repairs. This position requires travel to site and oversee and train on-site staff. The Engineer must have a demonstrated ability to resolve technical problems, document work instructions, communicate and manage resources effectively as well as deliver complex and time sensitive assignments in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions:

Remote monitoring of BESS plants

Provide BESS tech support, and be on-call to support OCC and on-site personnel

Review alarms, identify and troubleshoot outages

Engage and direct field technicians. Travel on site when necessary.

Perform root cause analysis and/or validates contractor root cause analysis

Document work instructions, SOP's, fault conditions and trouble resolution.

Train and mentor on-site technicians

Plant onboarding support: review documents from construction. Verify for completeness as it relates to plant Operations.

Execute LRE integrity programs for storage plants: primarily maintenance, repair and performance monitoring of equipment

Review maintenance findings from storage plants and make recommendations for maintenance improvements or upgrades

Interface with OEM technical teams

Qualifications:

BS in Electrical Engineering with experience installing, commissioning, maintaining, and troubleshooting BESS, powerplant generation, collection, and control systems

5 or more years of relevant technical experience in solar & battery storage required

Minimum 2yr hands-on experience with Powin Stack 230P and Stack 750 Centipede BESS

Experience as a Powin ROC or field technician

Troubleshooting of Powin Stack 750 and Stack 230 BESS systems

Proven knowledge of StackOS and Kobold/CCUPractical and functional understanding of battery storage systems

Experience with the maintenance and repair of electrical power systems

Ability to read and understand electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams and other common specifications in the electrical power industry

Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and manage technical projects

Demonstrated ability to manage priorities in a complex and dynamic environment

Physical Demands:

Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting and reaching

Willingness and ability to travel 25% of the time

Demonstrated ability to operate a motor vehicle and possession of a valid driver's license
