Job description

Job Overview

D&E Machine Company is seeking a skilled and dependable ProtoTRAK Lathe Operator to join our team at our onsite facility in Lebanon, OH.

Position Summary

As a ProtoTRAK Lathe Operator, you will be responsible for setting up, programming, and operating ProtoTRAK manual CNC lathes to manufacture precision components for a variety of industries. This position is ideal for an experienced machinist who enjoys working independently, reading blueprints, and producing high-quality parts with close attention to detail.

You will work closely with our production team to ensure jobs are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule. The successful candidate will take pride in craftsmanship, maintain quality standards, and contribute to a safe and productive work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up, program, and operate ProtoTRAK lathes to produce precision machined parts

  • Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements

  • Select appropriate tooling, work holding, speeds, and feeds for various materials

  • Inspect completed parts using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and other precision measuring instruments

  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections to ensure compliance with specifications

  • Make program and tooling adjustments as necessary to maintain quality and efficiency

  • Maintain accurate production records and completed job documentation

  • Perform routine machine maintenance and keep equipment and work areas clean and organized

  • Follow all company safety policies and standard operating procedures

  • Support team objectives by assisting with other machining and production tasks as needed

Required Qualifications
  • Experience operating and setting up ProtoTRAK lathes or similar conversational CNC equipment

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications

  • Proficiency using common precision measuring tools, including calipers, micrometers, and gauges

  • Strong understanding of machining practices, tooling selection, and material characteristics

  • Ability to work independently while maintaining quality and production standards

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality parts

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift materials up to 50 pounds as needed

  • Reliable attendance and a positive, team-oriented attitude

  • Willingness to work onsite full-time in Lebanon, OH

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of lathe machining experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience with ProtoTRAK conversational programming

  • Familiarity with machining stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, brass, plastics, and other common materials

  • Experience performing machine setups from blueprints with minimal supervision

  • Knowledge of GD&T and quality inspection processes

  • Experience operating additional machine shop equipment such as mills, saws, grinders, or CNC machinery

  • Forklift certification or prior material handling experience
