Description

SAIC is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams and projects related to the design, manufacture, and sustainment of US military equipment and systems and other related systems in support of its Indianapolis facility. This position will be a hybrid role with approximately (1-4 days per week onsite) at our Indianapolis, IN facility.

JOB DUTIES
  • May work with teams developing, producing, and sustaining radar and related RF systems, electronic warfare systems, communications equipment and systems, acoustic systems, electro-optic systems, weapon system launch and control systems, test equipment, and other military equipment.
  • Candidate is expected to have mastery in the use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques for designing mechanical constructs.
  • Candidate is expected to be able to work independently and solve complex engineering problems for multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Must have a good understanding of the effects of static loads, stress loads, acoustic pressure, altitude, humidity, and other environmental exposures on systems and components.
  • Candidate will perform FEA structural and thermal analysis using common software packages.
  • Candidate is expected to have a strong background in GD&T and ASME standards (or other industry standards) applied to drawings and models.
  • Candidate will work to standardize mechanical engineering processes and tools for the facility and will guide the mechanical engineering team in the implementation of the processes and tools.
  • Candidate will manage a team of other Mechanical Engineers, will mentor and give guidance to lower-level engineers, and will be able to review their work and help them improve their skills.
  • Computer skills:
    • Microsoft Office Suite
    • Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD and/or Creo
    • Experience using FEA tools, preparing reports with findings, and using results to improve mechanical/system designs
  • Experience preparing presentation material and presenting to peers, project tram members, customers, and managers at all levels
  • Experience with Configuration Management Tools for version control of hardware, software, and documentation.
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
QualificationsREQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND CLEARANCE
  • Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years related experience.
  • Experience generating mechanical requirements and translating them into design concepts to achieve desired output
  • Experience writing and interpreting technical reports and requirements and interface documents
  • Strong background in product design review processes, to include preparation of review documentation and products, and presentation of material in a structured development environment (i.e. defense, medical, automotive, etc.)
  • Experience running small projects related to electronics system development and/or integration.
  • Experience leading teams of engineers and/or other related project personnel
  • Computer skills:
