This position is responsible for mechanical engineering project requirements involving hydraulic power units, hydraulic/electric/pneumatic valve actuation, and hydraulic protection system design; design for manufacturing; 2D CAD drafting and 3D modelling of mechanical/hydraulic assemblies and systems; analysis and technical specification of system components and sub-assemblies; hands-on system assembly and fabrication; shop/factory testing; site installation and check-out support; commissioning; and field service of mechanical systems on industrial turbomachinery.

Major Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement mechanical components for turbomachinery control systems to meet customer, machine, integrated system, and safety requirements
  • Design complex hydraulic manifolds, valve actuators, piping/tubing systems, etc. with an emphasis on system functionality, material selection, and design for manufacturing. Develop 3D system models and component 2D machined part prints for machining operations
  • Design custom bracketry and fixtures to integrate new components into existing machinery and systems
  • Specify system components and develop bills of material for purchased parts. Develop detailed CAD drawings of design elements and functionality for shop assembly and customer use/documentation
  • Assemble and test mechanical system components. Develop and execute test plans, including customer witness tests, to verify safe and proper functionality of assembled components under live hydraulic (and/or electric, as applicable) power
  • Assist with initial start-up, debug integrated systems, and develop system documentation (manuals and technical documents)
  • Develop and lead training for customer personnel (machinery operators, engineers, technicians, etc.)
  • Work on turbomachinery control system integration projects for steam, combustion, and hydro turbines for clients in industries such as Commercial Power Generation (Fossil-Fuel, Nuclear, Hydro, Biomass, etc.), Industrial Cogeneration, Oil & Gas (Upstream, Midstream & Downstream), Chemical Processing, etc.
  • Project management skills and the ability to self-manage even complex projects; Excellent time management and multitasking; Flexibility in work environments and schedules; Strong written and oral communication skills, essential to building and maintaining good work and customer relationships
  • The ideal candidate must have a diverse engineering skill set with the ability to work independently and self-start. May act as lead on some projects and guide craftspeople and technicians, etc. (both internal and customer)
  • General administration such as paperwork, copying, printing, scanning, faxing, and using a computer

Minimum Requirements

Education BS Mechanical Engineering is preferred. An AA in Engineering Technology or equivalent with equivalent experience may be substituted.

Experience 5-10 years of experience in or exposure to areas below is preferred:
