Job description

Overall Purpose
The F5 Principal Network Engineer acts as a subject matter expert to mentor and support team members on network planning, engineering, and operational support. This role will be accountable for operation, performance and availability, and compliance of the Early Warning network.
Essential Functions
  • Subject Matter Expert: Develop and review current structure and plan for next generation. Be the technical go-to resource for network solutions. Provide direction and mentorship to team.
  • Operational Performance Champion: Ensure performance and availability are meeting business SLA's. Create and maintain the network standards and baselines. Maintain highest levels of network protection from disaster.
  • Support Amazing Customer Experience: Collaborate with various internal groups and external vendors to ensure all installations meet specifications, ensuring the resolution of problems as they arise. Analyze the needs of the organization and translate requirements into detailed technical specifications.
  • Support the company's commitment to risk management and protecting the integrity and confidentiality of systems and data.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education and/or experience typically obtained through completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or another related field
  • Typically, 12 or more years of demonstrated progressive expert level experience in network design, implementation, and support
  • Demonstrated experience leading network projects including large scale data center migrations
  • Serve as SME for F5 BIG-IP platforms including LTM, APM, ASM, providing architecture, implementation, optimization, and operational support for highly available application delivery services.
  • Design and maintain advanced F5 iRules, policies, and traffic management solutions supporting application availability, authentication, security, SSL offload, and performance optimization.
  • Lead implementation and support of global and local load balancing solutions including F5 GTM/DNS, Infoblox DTC, AWS ALB/ELB, Route53, and external DNS provider solutions support resiliency and disaster recovery objectives.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise DNS solutions and standards, ensuring high availability, security compliance, and integration across hybrid cloud and multi-data center environments.
  • Provide engineering leadership for application delivery and cloud networking initiatives, partnering across infrastructure, security, and application teams to deliver scalable hybrid network solutions.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and administrating network devices, setting and maintaining policies and rights within a network environment
    Extensive knowledge with the following equipment or disciplines:
    • Firewalls
    • Load Balancers
    • Cisco network switches
    • Cisco routers
    • Cisco VPN
    • Juniper equipment
    • Linux/ Windows servers
    • Telecom Services
  • Strong understanding of Data Center technologies, securing local and remote networks and routing protocols (i.e. BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) and common network monitoring and security utilities
  • A thorough understanding of the OSI network model, Ethernet, and TCP/IP networking
  • Strong technical background to include experience with Routing and Switching technologies and extensive knowledge of TCP/IP protocols
  • Demonstrated successful experience designing disaster recovery/business continuity network solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to create and deliver compelling and persuasive presentations.
  • Strong business acumen and customer service skills
  • Background and drug screen

  • Typically aligns with a minimum of 15 or more year's related experience
  • ITIL Experience with Version 3 or 4

The base pay scale for this position in:
Phoenix, AZ/ Chicago, IL in USD per year is: $172,000 - $215,000.
San Francisco, CA in USD per year is: $206,000 - $258,000.
Additionally, candidates are eligible for a discretionary incentive plan and benefits.

Physical Requirements
Working conditions consist of a normal office environment. Work is primarily sedentary and requires extensive use of a computer and involves sitting for periods of approximately four hours. Requires visual acuity and dexterity to view, prepare, and manipulate documents and office equipment including personal computers.
