Portland Public Schools' seeks an innovative and passionate education professional to join our team as a shared time music teacher at St. Patrick's School, Portland and Sts. Peter and Paul, Ionia. The desired candidate will continue the current music schedule while working with Portland Public Schools to expand the program to develop a Middle School and High School Band and/or Choir at St. Patricks.
The desired candidate would possess the following attributes:
  • Knowledge of MTSS and PBIS to support student needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Willingness to coach or serve as an advisor for extracurricular activities including developing programs
  • Ability to integrate technology into teaching and learning practices
  • Ability to handle complex and stressful issues or situations with sound judgment, common sense, and a calm demeanor
  • Impeccable character, a good sense of humor, and compassion for students, families, and staff

Eligible candidates must meet the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Music Education
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate JQ or JX
  • Knowledge and experience in a music setting regarding curriculum development/implementation, classroom management and music theory.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be familiar with State and Federal standards for performing arts.
  • Basic piano proficiency to accompany vocal performances.
  • Experience teaching: beginning level vocal music and reading music, introductions to instruments and performing at large ensemble capacities

  • Calendar: Monday and Tuesday, full days, school calendar
  • Compensation: In accordance with PEA contract
