This is an onsite position in the BMV Central Office at the Indiana Government Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Role Overview:
The BMV Records Clerk is responsible for processing court documentation and accurately applying traffic-related convictions to driver records. You will manage documentation from in-state and out-of-state agencies and respond to driver inquires about their records.
This role requires strong data entry abilities, intermediate computer proficiency, and effective written and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail and the ability to work with a high volume of documentation are essential.
Key outcomes for this role are:
  • Navigate and utilize the System Tracking and Record Support (STARS) database to manage driver records.
  • Use Microsoft Office applications daily to support data entry and documentation tasks.
  • Process documents that affect a driver's license status or driving privileges.
  • Maintain accurate and organized driver records in compliance with agency standards.
  • Communicate professionally with court staff, state agencies, and Indiana drivers to resolve record-related questions or issues.

Pay Rate:
This position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $15.17.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are:
  • Supports the daily operations of an organization by performing general office tasks.
  • Communicates with customers, employees, and other individuals to answer questions, disseminate, or explain information.
  • Reviews files, records, and other documents to obtain information to respond to requests.
  • Types forms, correspondence, memos, and other materials.
  • Maintains filing systems for efficient recordkeeping and easy retrieval.
  • Checks emails, send faxes, make copies, and updates computer databases.
  • Answers telephones and gives information to callers, take messages, or transfers calls to appropriate individuals.
  • Trains other staff members to perform work activities, such as using computer applications.
  • Completes tasks or projects assigned by supervisor in a timely manner.
