Position Summary

Are you passionate about criminal defense and ready to grow your career with a firm that invests in your future?

We're looking for an experienced Legal Assistant (Criminal) to join our team and make an immediate impact. As a Misdemeanor Paralegal/Legal Assistant, you'll play a critical role in driving positive outcomes for our clients through thorough legal research, precise document preparation, and meticulous case database management. Working closely with attorneys and fellow team members, you'll be a key driver of criminal matters moving efficiently from intake through resolution.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in criminal defense along with a strong working knowledge of current legal protocols and attorney support. Your excellent work can make a real difference in the case outcomes of the clients we serve.


What You'll Do


Here's how you'll make that impact:


Client & Case Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing timely updates on case status and outcomes following court hearings.
  • Maintain organized, accurate digital case files for each client.
  • Draft motions and correspondence to clients, prosecutors, courts, law enforcement agencies, the DMV, and other government agencies.

Attorney Support

  • Partner with attorneys to ensure they have all documents and resources needed to achieve the best possible outcome for clients.
  • Manage attorney calendars, including client meetings and court appearances
  • Ensure all court hearings, deadlines, and client meetings are accurately calendared

Case Preparation & Records

  • Request and obtain criminal history records (national, state, local, juvenile) and DMV/BMV records, along with booking photos and arrest records.
  • Analyze court documents, including dockets, minute orders, Livescan results, and FBI fingerprint reports.
  • Assemble criminal case files for trial, including legal documents, data entry, and correspondence.
  • Audit discovery to identify discrepancies, potential 1538 (motion to suppress) issues, and missing materials.
  • Compile civil court documents for restraining order matters.

Court Operations

  • Complete daily court calendars, obtain jury panels, and issue discovery to defense attorneys.
  • Assess cases and provide instructions for routine hearings, including arraignments, check filings, proof dates, and warrant recall strategy.

General

  • Adhere to all firm protocols and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:

What You'll Bring

  • 1+ years of experience in criminal defense.
  • 3 years of experience as a Legal Assistant
  • Full professional fluency in English and Spanish (C1/C2 English
  • Prior experience as a criminal or misdemeanor paralegal
  • Proven success keeping accurate and detailed notes and digital records and documentation.
  • Technology experience with G Suite case management software (e.g. Clio).

Work Setup

  • Fully remote role (LATAM)- PST Hours.
  • Full-time position: 40 hours weekly; Monday through Friday.
  • 10 Paid holidays and additional Paid Time off as part of our Wellness Programs
  • Compensation: $8.00+ per hour depending on experience.
