Job Duties
  • This position reports to Deputy Director of Education and Rehabilitative Care and supervises members of the Behavior Analytic Team.
  • The Director of Behavior Analysis is responsible for the supporting the implementation of Facility-Wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (FW-PBIS).
  • The Director of Behavior Analysis will ensure that all behavioral programming reflects the seven dimensions of behavior analysis, and demonstrates expertise in the area of strategic planning, utilizes implementation science to achieve organizational change by systematically impacting interagency dynamics.
  • The Director of Behavior Analysis will lead collaborative teams to guide initiatives related to positive behavioral changes for residents and staff.
  • The Director of Behavior Analysis will additionally provide direction regarding data collection and analysis.
  • Expertise in research and evidence-based practices is needed to assure quality of programmatic decisions.
  • The Director of Behavior Analysis will Comply with Federal and State regulations, District policies/practices, and those Standards defined by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) and Virginia Board of Medicine (VA BOM).

Minimum Qualifications
  • Independently plans and guides the implementation of behavior management programs for residents to include data collection and analysis to guide decision making at the executive level.
  • Applies technical expertise in the areas of strategic planning, applied behavior analysis, organizational behavior management, and implementation science
  • Expertise in leading multidisciplinary teams to plan and support division and agency initiatives related to behavioral change for residents and systems change for the organization.
  • Excellent reasoning, analytical, and communication skills.
  • A strong attention to detail, patience, and perseverance.
  • Ability to be an empathetic and an emotionally stable leader.
  • Comprehensive skills in the areas of research and evidence-based practices in the fields of applied behavior analysis, organizational behavior management, education, and juvenile justice.
  • Understands the characteristics of a wide range of disabilities and mental health disorders and has experience working with individuals who have a dual diagnosis.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of Federal, State regulations, and District policies, procedures, and practices. This includes those standards defined by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) and the VA Board of Medicine.
  • Ability to monitor and facilitate the introduction of trauma informed practices across the education setting through FW-PBIS with a strong emphasis on staff self-care.
  • Exceptional clinical skills to oversee the use of strategies and project implementation by a multi-tiered behavioral team based on resident and organizational needs. This team could include: Board Certified Behavior Analysts, Board Certified Associate Behavior Analysts, Registered Behavior Technicians, and staff who have or are working towards these certifications.
  • Highly skilled at developing and leading workshops and trainings related to needs across the agency. Utilizes Behavior Skills Training (BST) to ensure content mastery and increased likelihood of generalization.
  • Experience with computer technology as it relates to data collection, report writing, and presentations.
  • Regular and predictable attendance. Ability to meet the DHRM Physical Demands established. Knowledge of DHRM, DJJ Policies and Procedures.

Additional Considerations
  • At least 10 years of experience post certification working as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
  • Has facilitated the implementation of systematic organizational change towards new behavior management strategies, programs, and initiatives.
  • At least 5 years experience within juvenile justice or maximum-security settings.
  • Experience working with incarcerated youth preferred. At least two years of management preferred.
