Cybersecurity Implementation Engineer

Location: United States (Remote)

Position Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Cybersecurity Implementation Engineer to join our growing team. As a Cybersecurity Implementation Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting the mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) deploying DTEX User and Entity Behavior Analytics (UEBA) tools across multiple environments. The role requires a strong understanding of both security principles and the technical intricacies of cloud, on-premises, and hybrid infrastructures.

What You'll Do

As a Cybersecurity Implementation Engineer:

  • The primary duty is to lead the end-to-end technical deployment of the DTEX platform (lightweight endpoint collectors/forwarders, management consoles, and analytics servers) across Windows, macOS, and Linux endpoints. This will be done alongside DTEX Networks SMEs.
  • The role requires the engineer to design and execute silent, scalable deployment strategies using enterprise software distribution tools (e.g., Microsoft Intune, SCCM, Ansible) while ensuring zero degradation to host system performance.
  • Identify and document required network paths, firewall rules, and proxy/TLS inspection exceptions for agent-to-management-server and management-server-to-cloud communication across on-prem sites, Azure Government, AWS GovCloud, and SaaS/PaaS boundaries; author and submit firewall change requests through VA's change process.
  • Coordinate with endpoint security/allowlisting teams to establish necessary application-control allowlist entries and AV/EDR exclusions (e.g., CrowdStrike, Microsoft Defender) so the DTEX agent installs and runs cleanly without triggering false positives.
  • A part of the job is to implement and enforce DTEX's "Privacy-by-Design" masking and anonymization features to ensure metadata collection complies with regulatory requirements (GDPR, HIPAA) and internal privacy guidelines.
  • The Implementation Engineer will act as a subject matter expert for post-deployment issues. They perform fault isolation and root cause analysis to diagnose and resolve complex technical problems related to DTEX functionality, integration, or performance. This can involve troubleshooting support and providing technical assistance as needed.
  • The role involves integrating DTEX telemetry and high-fidelity alerts with existing SOC tooling, including SIEM (Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, Elastic) and SOAR platforms via REST APIs and Webhooks.
  • Operations and Maintenance will require, monitoring endpoint agent health, performance, and fleet connectivity; lead troubleshooting of agent conflicts, missing telemetry, or local environment issues. Engineer will be required to maintain complete deployment documentation, architectural diagrams, and operational runbooks for tier-1/tier-2 support handover. Engineer will need to participate in DR tabletop exercises.
  • The lead will serve as the primary technical liaison with DTEX Professional Services and Customer Success for platform upgrades, feature requests, and issue resolution. Lead will also serve as a liaison between the FW team to manage and maintain FW exceptions.

What You Bring (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher - equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 7+ years of implementing cybersecurity software tools. Preferably in a federal environment.
  • Strong understanding of UEBA tools and there configuration.
  • Experience with Agile project management methods and frameworks such as SCRUM and SAFe is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of program/project management software (Microsoft Project, Jira, Microsoft 365/Teams applications, etc.).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively with a team of peers.
