This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company's locations: The Madison Club, set outside of La Quinta, CA.
The Madison Club is seeking a Golf House Retail Manager to join the Retail Department.
The primary objective of the Retail Manager is to provide an exceptional retail experience that aligns with The Madison Club's standards of excellence. This position holds full ownership of the buying process, from strategic planning and vendor development to executing seasonal buys. This position is also responsible for leading a high-performing retail team and driving sales through outstanding visual merchandising, proactive inventory oversight, and a genuine commitment to understanding and anticipating the preferences of Madison Club members. This position is responsible for sourcing and purchasing quality, high-end merchandise across a variety of product categories including golf, athleisure, logo apparel and accessories for men, women and children, gift, home and more for both the retail store and marketing swag. The Retail Manager also serves as a liaison between the Regional Director of Retail and the on-site team, building strong relationships with members and monitoring sell-through data to better understand the property's retail needs and inform collaborative buying decisions.

Purchasing:

  • Utilize the open-to-buy system, Management One, to properly manage inventory and purchasing.

  • Execute and oversee purchases including vendor communications, new account setup, logo instructions, purchase orders and order tracking.

  • Complete purchase orders and update all business model components accurately and in a timely manner

  • Collaborate with Regional Director of Retail on custom product development and ensure all branding guidelines are adhered to for retail and marketing swag.

  • Work closely with the Retail Administrator to monitor and manage the receipt flow of purchases for retail and marketing swag through updates to Buying Plans, On-Order tracking, Purchase Orders and Management One.

  • Assist with sourcing and purchasing staff uniforms, event swag, tournament tee gifts, and other miscellaneous projects as requested.

  • Work closely with accounting to develop and maintain proper SOPs for processing invoices, inventory control and AP reconciliation.

  • Attend all required trade shows including the Indian Wells Golf Show 2x annually, PGA Show 1x annually and 1-2 additional shows that are relevant to the product assortment.

  • Update and maintain all vendor contact information.

Inventory Control:

  • Conduct monthly physical inventories for retail and swag.

  • Maintain shrink parameters for retail inventory.

  • Monitor the sell-through of best sellers and core items. Fill in as needed to maintain proper inventory levels.

  • Work with the Retail Administrator to receive retail merchandise into the POS Inventory system, in adherence to company standards and guidelines pertaining to category and SKU assignment, pricing and descriptions.

  • Enforce DLC companywide policies for employee purchases.

  • Work with accounting department to reconcile all receipts and outstanding issues.

Selling/Merchandising:

  • Ensure the store is always pristinely merchandised with frequent floor rotations and new product placed in a timely manner according to Buying Plan timelines and any special events or VIPs on property.

  • Monitor and drive sales to meet monthly revenue budgets through building member relationships and maintaining knowledge of brands in the store and current fashion trends.

  • Incorporate trunk shows, shopping events, and other promotions to expand the retail offering for members and increase revenue.

  • Assist and service members and their guests with all retail purchases, returns and special orders. Ensure proper procedures are followed for all transactions including markdowns and employee discounts.

  • Ensure company packaging standards are upheld and implement special touches like giftwrapping and thank-you notes.

  • Maintain a member database with retail specific information for personal buying such as brand preferences and sizes.

Training/Staff Development:

  • Collaborate with the Regional Director of Retail to develop and implement retail SOPs unique to the club operation and logistics using DLC standards as a baseline

  • Recruit and train retail staff

  • Oversee scheduling of retail staff

  • Provide continuous product knowledge training

  • Develop and implement staff incentives for quality work and meeting sales parameters

  • Identify growth opportunities within the retail team and partner with the Regional Director of Retail to develop targeted training tools.

Other:

  • Assist with any other duties as assigned by Regional Director of Retail and General Manager.

  • Assist golf staff with tournament gifting preparation
