Position Summary: The primary responsibility of this position is to identify and resolve complex legal issues as a member of the company-wide legal team. This role will be responsible for assisting with reviewing, assessing, drafting, negotiating, and revising a broad range of contracts. The position will also work cross-functionally with relevant divisions, marketing managers, agents and other stakeholders to ensure timely routing, approval, and execution of such contracts. You will work closely with the other members of the legal team and will be responsible for providing legal advice and counsel and assisting the Company with identification and implementation of practical business solutions to achieve its goals. The ideal candidate is highly-organized, solutions- and customer service-oriented, pragmatic and proactive in their approach to assigned tasks, and able to work both collaboratively and autonomously. This role will be based in Excel's New York office.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Drafts, analyzes, reviews, and negotiates brand marketing and property sales agreements, event services/management agreements, including but not limited to vendor agreements and talent/influencer agreements;
  • Review and negotiate contracts with a focus on risk mitigation, protecting the company from unfavorable terms and liabilities;
  • Manage contract tracking and oversee the end-to-end contract workflow across ESM Brand Marketing and Game Seven teams;
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders, including Legal and Finance, to streamline contracting workflows;
  • Assist in coordinating and tracking fully executed agreements to ensure proper documentation and accessibility and ensuring proper documentation, filing, and reporting of all agreements and amendments;
  • Proactively follow up with internal teams and external partners on contract status, signatures, and the progress of master agreements and scopes of work;
  • Reviews marketing programs and promotional materials to ensure compliance with applicable principles, policies, and applicable law;
  • Leads significant projects, both within the legal department and across a variety of functions; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school;
  • Admission to NY State Bar (preferred);
  • 2-4 years of legal experience in a law firm, in-house counsel, or other relevant legal experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to work independently, while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of contacts, including outside counsel, executive and senior management, and business associates;
  • Experience in sports, media or entertainment industry law department or at law firm in relevant practice group strongly preferred;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that will enable interaction with a range of personalities and styles in a fast-paced business environment (including explaining complex and sensitive concepts to clients and colleagues);
  • Solid analytic skills, creative problem-solving abilities and a practical business-oriented viewpoint;
  • Meticulous attention to detail, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize and produce quality work within deadlines;
  • Outstanding drafting and organizational skills; and
  • Positive attitude focused on problem solving through a proactive and team-oriented approach to work.
  • Presentation skills for purposes of, among other things, advising internal clients on risk assessment and mitigation.

The pay range for this position is: $100,000- $120,000 per year.This position is also eligible for benefits and discretionary bonus.
