Immigration Attorney
Portner & Shure, P.A. is a well-established, multi-state law firm with thriving immigration, personal injury, criminal defense, and workers' compensation practices. Our Immigration Department is continuing to grow, and we are seeking a motivated, court experienced, client-focused Immigration Attorney to join our team.
This is a hybrid position based out of our Vienna, Virginia office, offering the opportunity to handle a diverse caseload spanning affirmative and defensive immigration matters while working in a collaborative environment with experienced attorneys and legal support staff. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and comfortable managing a high-volume practice while delivering exceptional client service.
Responsibilities
- Independently manage a full caseload of affirmative and defensive immigration matters from intake through final resolution.
- Represent clients before USCIS and EOIR, including appearances at Master Calendar Hearings, Individual (Merits) Hearings, and USCIS interviews.
- Prepare and file applications, petitions, waivers, motions, briefs, appeals, and supporting evidence with USCIS, EOIR, the BIA, DOS, and other government agencies.
- Analyze country conditions evidence and develop legal strategies in support of asylum, withholding of removal, and Convention Against Torture (CAT) claims.
- Prepare and litigate Cancellation of Removal cases before the Immigration Court.
- Prepare clients for asylum interviews, adjustment interviews, naturalization interviews, and immigration court hearings.
- Review Records of Proceedings (ROPs), FOIA responses, criminal records, and immigration histories to identify legal issues and evidentiary needs.
- Collaborate with paralegals and legal assistants to ensure timely preparation and filing of applications and supporting documentation.
- Maintain strong client communication throughout representation while managing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Practice Areas
The successful candidate should have court experience and the ability to handle a broad range of immigration matters, including:
- Family-based immigration petitions and adjustment of status
- Removal defense before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals
- Affirmative and defensive asylum
- Cancellation of Removal
- U Visas and VAWA
- Waivers, including Forms I-601, I-601A, and I-212
- Consular processing
- Naturalization and citizenship matters
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active Bar license in good standing (Virginia Bar admission is a plus).
- Minimum of 2 years of immigration law experience preferred.
- Strong legal research, analytical, and persuasive writing skills.
- Experience representing clients before USCIS and the Immigration Court.
- Ability to independently manage a high-volume caseload while meeting strict filing deadlines.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and client management skills.
- Fluency in Spanish (written and spoken) is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation begins at $100,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
