JOB SUMMARY

Maintains documented competencies in Diagnostic Imaging.   Under the direct supervision of the Imaging Director, performs procedures to assist in a diagnosis of disease and injuries.  Possess the knowledge of all pertinent technical and academic areas to produce consistent, high quality examinations.  Is Responsible for the everyday activities of the Imaging departments.  Functions independently within the broad scope of established departmental policies and goals; generally refers specific problems to the supervisor only when clarification of operating policies and procedures may be required. Must possess the ability assess patient data relative to age specific needs and provide care as described in the department’s policies and procedures.

MAJOR JOB FUNCTION

1. Performs radiographic procedures as ordered by a provider for interpretation by a Radiologist.
2. Positions patients and selects proper factors and protocol for each examination. 
3. Obtains a complete history of patient’s signs/symptoms for each exam, documents accordingly, and correctly quality reviews all documentation prior to submission to the Radiologist.
4. Completes all daily patient schedule work-up requirements.
5. Communicates effectively and professionally with the Medical Staff and hospital staff and interdepartmental staff.
6. Documents any contrast reactions or infiltrations according to department policies and procedures.
7. Performs quality assurance Tests for all required equipment and cleans equipment daily before starting exam schedule and in between each patient exam.        
8. Assumes care and responsibility for patients undergoing exams until the patient leaves the Department.  Instruct patients regarding procedure and clearly communicates regarding any questions or concerns the patient may have.
9. Maintains clean examination rooms, stocks necessary medical, radiological supplies and linen.
10. Oversees radiographic technology students the proper procedures, x-ray physics, equipment operation, anatomy and the duties and responsibilities of an Imaging Technologist.
11. Operates portable radiographic equipment for the performance of procedures throughout the hospital including the surgical unit and the emergency room.
12. Notifies Imaging Director of any concerns that directly affect the Imaging Department.
13. Demonstrates flexibility regarding schedule changes and uses time efficiently.
14. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

GENERAL REQUIREMENT

Must comply with and uphold Tomah Health’s Standards of Behavior at all times.

1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. Graduated from an approved School of Radiologic Technology.
3. Currently registered or eligible to be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and have passed the Radiologic Registry (or ready to sit the exam).
4. Current certification or eligibility to become BLS certified.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
2. Excellent human relation skills as demonstrated by the ability to interface positively with all customers and employees.
3. Must acquire the knowledge and maintain established competency levels to perform essential radiologic practice.
4. Must have the ability to work with frequent interruptions, under stress, with minimal supervision, and to exercise initiative and judgment in analyzing, organizing, planning, prioritizing, scheduling and coordinating work with others.
5. Needs to possess as high level of intelligence, integrity, sense of responsibility and ability to comprehend and analyze details.
6. Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment.
7. Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for infant through geriatric patients.
8. Prior radiologic experience preferred.

1. Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, and talk and hear.
2. Is frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.
3. Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch, and smell.
4. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as infectious/communicable diseases, noise, blood and bloodborne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases, dusts, and physical injury/verbal abuse from an out-of-control patient.  Frequent exposure to distressed patients, families or visitors.  Must be able to function effectively under stressful situations.
