Image Sensor Analog Design Engineer information

What does an Image Sensor Analog Design Engineer do?

An Image Sensor Analog Design Engineer is responsible for designing and developing the analog circuits within image sensors, which are used in devices like cameras, smartphones, and industrial equipment. Their work involves creating circuits for pixel arrays, amplifiers, analog-to-digital converters, and other components that capture and process light into electronic signals. They collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the sensor meets performance, power, and reliability requirements. This role requires expertise in analog circuit design, semiconductor technology, and often involves simulation and testing of prototypes.

What are some common challenges faced by Image Sensor Analog Design Engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Image Sensor Analog Design Engineers often encounter challenges related to minimizing noise, achieving high dynamic range, and optimizing power consumption in compact layouts. Balancing these factors while ensuring sensor reliability and manufacturability requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, such as digital designers and process engineers. Staying updated with the latest semiconductor technologies and simulation tools can help in overcoming these hurdles, as well as engaging in peer design reviews to catch potential issues early in the development cycle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Image Sensor Analog Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Image Sensor Analog Design Engineer, you need a strong background in analog circuit design, semiconductor physics, and experience with CMOS image sensor technology, typically supported by a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with industry-standard EDA tools like Cadence, SPICE simulators, and layout verification software, as well as knowledge of design for manufacturability, is essential. Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and effective communication are critical soft skills that help in collaborating with cross-functional teams and troubleshooting complex design issues. These skills ensure the development of high-performance, reliable image sensors that meet demanding technical and market requirements.

Cirrus Logic is also known for its award-winning culture, which was built on a foundation of inclusion and fairness, meaningful community engagement, and delivering enjoyable employee experiences at every turn. But we couldn't do it without our extraordinary workforce - and that's where you come in. Join our team and help us continue to make Cirrus Logic an exceptional place to grow your career!
About the role
We are looking for an experienced Analog Design Engineer to join our team in Austin, Texas. In this role, you will contribute to the design and development of high-performance analog and mixed-signal circuits used in advanced semiconductor products.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving challenging design problems, working closely with cross-functional teams, and owning critical circuit blocks from concept through silicon validation. You will have the chance to make a meaningful impact on products that reach millions of users worldwide.
What you'll do
  • Design and develop analog and mixed-signal circuit blocks for new and existing products
  • Translate system and product requirements into robust circuit architectures and detailed implementations
  • Perform transistor-level design, simulation, and verification across performance, power, area, reliability, and process variation
  • Partner closely with layout, digital, verification, validation, and product engineering teams to deliver high-quality silicon
  • Support silicon bring-up, characterization, debugging, and root-cause analysis
  • Drive technical problem solving, identify risks early, and help develop practical mitigation plans
  • Contribute to design reviews, technical documentation, and continuous improvement across the engineering team

What we're looking for
  • Strong experience in analog or mixed-signal IC design with a proven record of delivering complex circuit blocks
  • Deep understanding of transistor-level analog design fundamentals and common analog building blocks
  • Experience with circuit simulation and analysis across corners, Monte Carlo, mismatch, and reliability conditions
  • Ability to balance technical rigor with execution speed in a product development environment
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across multidisciplinary teams
  • A self-directed, ownership-oriented approach to solving difficult engineering problems

Preferred qualifications
  • Experience in audio, power, data converter, or precision analog design applications
  • Familiarity with silicon bring-up and post-silicon debug
  • Experience working closely with physical design and layout teams to achieve robust, manufacturable results
  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction and improve design quality across projects

Export control restrictions based upon applicable laws and regulations would prohibit candidates who are nationals of certain embargoed countries from working in this position without Cirrus Logic first obtaining an export license. Candidates for this role must be able to access technical data without a requirement for an export license. We are unable to sponsor or obtain export licenses for this role.
Cirrus Logic strives to select the best qualified applicant for any opening. Different approaches, ideas and points of view are both valued and respected. Employment decisions are made on the basis of job-related criteria without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, protected veteran or disabled status, genetic information, or any other classification protected by applicable law.
