Image Sensor Analog Design Engineer information

What does an image sensor analog design engineer do?

An Image Sensor Analog Design Engineer is responsible for designing and developing the analog circuits within image sensors, which are used in devices like cameras, smartphones, and industrial equipment. Their work involves creating circuits for pixel arrays, amplifiers, analog-to-digital converters, and other components that capture and process light into electronic signals. They collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the sensor meets performance, power, and reliability requirements. This role requires expertise in analog circuit design, semiconductor technology, and often involves simulation and testing of prototypes.

What are some common challenges faced by image sensor analog design engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Image Sensor Analog Design Engineers often encounter challenges related to minimizing noise, achieving high dynamic range, and optimizing power consumption in compact layouts. Balancing these factors while ensuring sensor reliability and manufacturability requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, such as digital designers and process engineers. Staying updated with the latest semiconductor technologies and simulation tools can help in overcoming these hurdles, as well as engaging in peer design reviews to catch potential issues early in the development cycle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an image sensor analog design engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Image Sensor Analog Design Engineer, you need a strong background in analog circuit design, semiconductor physics, and experience with CMOS image sensor technology, typically supported by a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with industry-standard EDA tools like Cadence, SPICE simulators, and layout verification software, as well as knowledge of design for manufacturability, is essential. Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and effective communication are critical soft skills that help in collaborating with cross-functional teams and troubleshooting complex design issues. These skills ensure the development of high-performance, reliable image sensors that meet demanding technical and market requirements.

Job description

About us
At Applied Labs, we're building the platform for reliable AI agents that automate complex work. We are primarily an in-person company based in New York City.
Why this could be a fit
  • Trajectory: 10x growth in 4 months; strong momentum
  • Ownership: High autonomy; own outcomes end to end
  • Challenging problems: Build high-craft experiences that explain complex AI simply
  • Team quality: Early team from Harvard, MIT, Gemini, Meta
  • Speed and taste: Move fast without lowering the bar
What you'll do
  • Own the Applied Labs web and brand surfaces from concept to production, including marketing site, landing pages, launch pages, and lightweight interactive storytelling
  • Design and build directly in code, translating high-fidelity design into production-quality UI with excellent typography, layout, motion, accessibility, and performance
  • Create reusable components and templates that raise consistency and speed across the website and brand experiences
  • Build and maintain a high-quality pipeline for on-brand design assets, including images, short-form video, motion graphics, and illustrations
  • Use modern AI tools to accelerate output and iteration, including coding agents and generative image and video models, while maintaining a strong human taste and QA bar
  • Partner closely with founders in NYC to set the quality bar for how Applied Labs looks, feels, and communicates, and to execute quickly on new narratives, experiments, and launches
  • Establish the standard for future hires through your documentation, component patterns, asset specs, and creative workflow
You might thrive in this role if you
  • Have shipped polished, customer-facing web experiences and can point to real work in production
  • Are fluent in both design and frontend implementation, and you prefer eliminating handoffs by owning the whole loop
  • Care deeply about craft details, including typography, spacing, responsiveness, motion, and interaction feel
  • Can prototype quickly, validate with real feedback, and iterate without losing coherence or quality
  • Use AI tools effectively to speed up coding and creative production, and you can critique and refine outputs rather than accepting them as-is
  • Are product-minded and narrative-driven, and you ask what the user needs to understand, feel, and do next
  • Prefer in-person collaboration and fast decision cycles
Bonus points
  • Experience building or extending a design system in code
  • Comfort with animation and micro-interactions, including motion guidelines and implementation
  • Strong writing and editorial taste for landing page messaging and information architecture
  • Experience producing brand assets using generative image and video workflows while keeping results consistent and on-brand
Compensation & benefits
  • Competitive salary + significant equity
  • Flexible (Unlimited) Paid Time Off
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits for you and your family
  • Fancy lunches, plus snacks, coffee, or boba
  • Relocation support to NYC if needed
