What is an igloo?

An igloo is a type of shelter traditionally built from blocks of compacted snow, commonly associated with the Inuit and other Arctic peoples. Igloos are designed to provide insulation and protection from harsh winter conditions by trapping body heat inside while keeping cold winds out. They are typically dome-shaped and can vary in size, from small structures for one or two people to larger communal shelters. Igloos showcase the ingenuity of Arctic communities in adapting to their cold environment.

What are some common challenges faced by igloo builders and how can they be overcome?

Igloo builders often face challenges such as working in extreme cold, ensuring structural stability, and sourcing suitable snow for construction. Maintaining safety while using sharp tools and lifting heavy snow blocks is essential. Collaborating closely with a team, maintaining clear communication, and following best practices for snow selection and block placement can help overcome these obstacles. Proper training and experience in cold weather construction also contribute to successful and safe igloo building.

Job description

Igloo Products Corp. is an iconic, fast-growing American brand known for its exceptional and durable coolers designed to meet everyday needs. For more than 75 years, Igloo has been a leader in the housewares industry and has evolved into a high-growth lifestyle brand, inspiring outdoor experiences centered around fun, family, and friends.
Founded in 1947 as a metalworking shop that brought fresh cold water to Texas workers in the field, and later inventing the Playmate, Igloo has grown into America's most recognizable brand of ice chests. The Igloo story spans more than 75 years of delivering coolness to the world. Today, Igloo has over 90% brand awareness, is #1 in market share in the U.S., and is a pioneer in sustainability within its category through the launch of biodegradable coolers and products made with post-consumer recycled resin and other sustainable materials. Igloo also has a growing direct-to-consumer (DTC) business, allowing us to build direct relationships with our consumers. In 2021, Igloo was acquired by Dometic Brands, creating the opportunity to globally grow both brands together.
Built on a legacy of quality and innovation, we are seeking a Product Compliance Specialist to join our team and support our continued growth.
The Compliance Specialist supports Igloo's Product Safety & Compliance function by ensuring all products meet global regulatory, chemical, mechanical, electrical, and environmental requirements throughout the product lifecycle. This role plays a critical part in maintaining market access, reducing regulatory risk, and strengthening Igloo's global compliance posture. The Compliance Specialist will evaluate new products and material changes, support chemical and material compliance programs, and collaborate closely with third party laboratories, suppliers, and internal engineering and quality teams. The ideal candidate brings hands on technical expertise, strong regulatory awareness, and the ability to navigate emerging mandates such as PFAS restrictions, Prop 65, REACH, RoHS, and other evolving global standards.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Product Safety & Regulatory Compliance

  • Support "compliance by design" by partnering with Engineering, Quality, Product Management, and Sourcing during early development phases.
  • Monitor regulatory volatility and emerging mandates, providing timely risk assessments and implementation guidance.

Chemical & Material Compliance
  • Support compliance programs for PFAS, Prop 65, REACH SVHCs, RoHS, WEEE, and other chemical safety frameworks.
  • Review material declarations, SDSs, supplier certifications, and chemical test reports to verify conformity.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining validated testing protocols for PFAS, BPA, phthalates, heavy metals, and other high risk substances.
  • Participate in raw material control programs, including resin handling, contamination prevention, and supplier batch traceability.

Third-Party Laboratory Coordination
  • Serve as a primary technical liaison with accredited third-party test laboratories.
  • Prepare and submit test requests, ensuring correct test methods, sample selection, and regulatory scope.
  • Review laboratory quotations, protocols, and final reports for accuracy and alignment with global regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate retesting, root cause investigations, and corrective actions when discrepancies arise.

Testing, Validation & Documentation
  • Support internal and external testing activities across mechanical, chemical, electrical, and RF domains.
  • Maintain accurate compliance documentation, including test reports, declarations of conformity, and supplier certifications.
  • Assist with integrating compliance data into MRP systems for SKU-level traceability.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of SOPs, compliance checklists, and technical files.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, and Product Management to ensure compliance requirements are understood and implemented.
  • Support investigations of product safety issues, non-conformances, and field incidents.
  • Provide technical input during corrective action planning and root cause analysis.
