Job description

Position Overview

Spectate Group, part of the Nicholas Family of Companies, is seeking a Hockey Manager (HM) to provide strategic leadership and oversight of all on-ice and off ice hockey operations for Glacier Hockey and the Ice Dogs Hockey Association (IDHA).


This role is responsible for managing, developing, and evaluating all coaching personnel while ensuring a consistent high quality, and developmentally appropriate experience for all players. The Hockey Manager will uphold program integrity and foster a culture centered on skill development, competitiveness, and sportsmanship.


Responsibilities Include

  • Manages and leads all aspects of the Glacier Hockey Program
  • Serves as the primary liaison between Glacier Hockey, outside hockey governing bodies, Ice Dogs Hockey Association, and appropriate leagues
  • Works with the IDHA Board of Directors to coordinate both on and off ice scheduling
  • Directs seasonal hockey programming, including schedules, tournaments, camps, clinics, and supplemental development sessions
  • Serves as a visible leader at Glacier Hockey events - engages with players, parents, and coaching staff to maintain a positive culture.
  • Leads communication with Glacier Hockey players and families around organizational news and initiatives
  • Resolves hockey-related disputes, disciplinary matters, and player concerns
  • Attends and presents at all Glacier Hockey-related meetings
  • Coordinates with rink management to secure/manage ice time to align with needs and budget
  • Oversee team formation processes, including tryouts and player placement
  • Ensure all hockey operations remain compliant with USA Hockey/AAU/AHAI/SafeSport regulations
  • Manages annual budgeting and oversight for hockey-specific expenses
  • Administers and facilitates Rules & Ethics issues internally / externally with board, AHAI, and leagues.
  • Schedules referees for non-league home games and tournaments related to Glacier Hockey
  • Hires qualified head and assistant coaches, including skills and goaltending
  • Establishes and enforces club-wide coaching standards and expectations
  • Supports and lead “Program Level Directors” for the Glacier Hockey’s House/Tier 3 program.
  • Conduct pre-season/in-season coaching meetings to provide training, tools, and support
  • Observes team practices and games throughout the season to ensure coaching consistency and adherence to Glacier Hockey’s philosophy
  • Mentors coaches on practice planning, in-game strategy, player development, and conduct
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Spectate Group and Manager of Operations, Program Scheduling

  • Strong coaching background. Skilled at hiring, mentoring, and evaluating other coaches
  • Thorough understanding of age-appropriate skill progression, game strategy, and character-building
  • Ability to cultivate a unified and positive coaching culture
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage relationships with the community to help grow the organization and hockey offerings
