NOW HIRING: Maintenance / Custodian (Ice Arena)
The Ice Arena Maintenance Custodian is a part-time position under the direct supervision of the Ice Arena Facility Supervisor. This position is responsible for the cleaning and routine maintenance work in the Ice Arena and its surrounding grounds.
INCENTIVES: Part-time employees receive 25% off general programs with the exception of PDNA, contracted, trips, and private lessons. In order to encourage a healthy lifestyle for our staff members, the Park District provides all staff with the opportunity to use our fitness facilities at the Community Pavilion and the Racquet, Fitness and Gymnastics Center free of charge.
ABOUT US: The Oak Lawn Park District, incorporated in 1944, has a long and proud history of serving the recreational needs of our 56,000 residents with a myriad of recreational programs and services. We operate under the state tax cap as a municipal corporation, meaning we are our own taxing body. Overseen by a Board of five elected officials, the District manages a combination of 34 parks and facilities which cover over 280 acres. In addition, we manage a Special Recreation Cooperative that offers recreational programs and services to individuals with disabilities in 9 municipalities.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be 16 years of age
  • Knowledge of cleaning supplies and basic tools
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Must have decision making skills
  • Must be able to take the initiative with tasks

  • Must be able to organize and prioritize duties and responsibilities

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Ice Arena Facility Supervisor
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Must obtain CPR and First Aid certification
  • Cleans, washes floors, walls, and windows
  • Cleans restrooms and replenishes supplies
  • Empties waste receptacles and facility trash
  • Changes light bulbs
  • Cleans adjacent grounds for litter and sweeps walks
  • Cleans and maintains locker and shower rooms including replenishing supplies
  • Uses daily checklist and completes each task as assigned
  • Setup and takedown for all facility rentals including tables, chairs, party rentals, and other programs
  • Checks daily facility schedule and ensures proper setup in each area as specified
  • Clean arena floors, stands, player benches, and surrounding areas
  • Communicates safety concerns to Facility Supervisor
  • May be requested to assist with cleaning at satellite pool facilities
  • Obey and enforce rules, regulations, and procedures established by the Oak Lawn Park District
  • Performs other tasks as needed

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assists Supervisor on duty with hockey goals and marginal ice maintenance tasks on ice and with ice resurfacer
  • Moves furniture and equipment as needed
  • Reports building repairs
  • Shovels snow
  • Operates gas powered snow blower
  • Spreads salt on sidewalks

PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS
  • Must be able to work up to 20 hours per week
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs
  • Must be able to stand, move and perform labor activities for long period of time
  • Must walk on ice surface to perform some duties

PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS
  • Must work closely with others
  • Must work around the general public and patrons in the facility
  • Must work under the supervision and directions of supervisors
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize well
  • Must be able to communicate with staff and patrons in a friendly and professional manner

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
  • Employee is exposed to outside weather conditions 10 percent of the time, including extreme heat, cold snow, rain, and ice
  • Employee is exposed to cold conditions inside ice rink
  • Protective clothing is required as follows: ear plugs, safety glasses/goggles, protective gloves, and protective equipment needed for specific job task
  • Employee is exposed to chemicals including but not limited to cleaning supplies, oils, and gasoline
