Systems Administrator (IBM i / iSeries)Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled Systems Administrator (IBM i / iSeries) to join our IT Infrastructure team. This role is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and ongoing support of IBM i (iSeries) systems, including hardware, operating systems, and core business applications.

This hands-on position plays a critical role in ensuring system reliability, security, and performance, while supporting both daily operations and strategic IT initiatives. The ideal candidate will collaborate across IT teams, contribute to business continuity efforts, and uphold compliance standards.


Key ResponsibilitiesSystem Administration & Support
  • Install, configure, and maintain IBM i (iSeries) hardware, operating systems, and related software.
  • Monitor system performance and health; proactively identify and resolve issues.
  • Manage user profiles, access controls, and system security settings.
  • Implement and maintain backup, recovery, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) solutions.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and system issues; escalate when necessary.
  • Partner with developers to optimize application performance on the IBM i platform.
  • Administer and support Infor A+ ERP, including upgrades, patching, and system integrations.
Security & Compliance
  • Enforce system security policies, access controls, and auditing procedures.
  • Monitor logs and activity for potential threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory standards.
  • Stay current on IBM i security best practices and emerging risks.
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
  • Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations and procedures.
  • Develop technical guides, diagrams, and user documentation.
  • Share knowledge and provide training to team members on IBM i and Infor A+ support.
Collaboration & Support
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support after-hours alerts and escalations.
  • Follow established troubleshooting procedures and escalate appropriately.
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal stakeholders with clear and timely communication.
Projects & Continuous Improvement
  • Balance operational support with project and maintenance work.
  • Contribute to system upgrades, enhancements, and process improvements.
  • Adapt to evolving business needs and IT priorities.

Qualifications & SkillsRequired
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience administering IBM i (iSeries) systems.
  • Strong experience with system installation, configuration, and administration.
  • Knowledge of system security, user management, and auditing principles.
  • Hands-on experience with performance monitoring, tuning, and system optimization.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Preferred
  • Experience supporting Infor A+ ERP.
  • Familiarity with backup/recovery, HA, and DR solutions.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., IBM Certified Systems Expert – IBM i) are a plus.
