Overview
LMI is seeking an experienced Field Systems (RF/IoT) Engineer to support a DoD client. The ideal candidate will have strong proficiency in working with RFID, sensors, internet of things (IOT), Bluetooth, and similar technologies along with experience deploying these technologies and related infrastructure to various operational environments. This position can be performed remotely within the U.S., some travel is required. This position requires the ability to obtain an active secret clearance and U.S. citizenship; current active secret clearance preferred.

Responsibilities
The Opportunity
We're looking for someone who thrives at the intersection of hardware, networking, and data. You'll design and deploy RFID, Bluetooth, and IoT solutions that power next-generation logistics and asset tracking for defense missions worldwide. This role combines hands-on engineering with system-level problem solving. You'll recommend, configure, and optimize sensors, readers, and communications infrastructure across diverse environments-from depots and ports to forward operating bases
What You'll Do
  • Design and deploy wireless data collection and communication systems that meet unique operational and envioronmental constraints.
  • Recommend and implement hardware, infrastructure, and installation configurations tailored to each facility's layout and mission needs.
  • Analyze and tune communication protocols for varying bandwidth, latency, frequency, proximity, and payload requirements.
  • Develop and refine new wireless communication methods to improve logistics efficiency.
  • Identify, analyze, and mitigate interference or signal degradation issues in complex environments.
  • Apply RF engineering principles and tools to maximize system performance and reliability.
  • Support troubleshooting, optimization, and sustainment for deployed systems in the field.
  • Develop and execute test and qualification procedures for wireless and IoT systems.
  • Travel up to 25-50% to support installations, testing, and on-site engineering work.

Qualifications
What We're Looking For
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • 3-5+ years of experience with RF, IoT, or sensor-based systems.
  • Strong understanding of RFID, Bluetooth, and wireless network design.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise-grade networking hardware (Cisco, Juniper, HP, etc.).
  • Proficiency with network protocols such as TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Familiarity with command-line interface (CLI) configuration and Linux-based systems; shell scripting a plus.
  • Deep understanding of RF testing tools and diagnostics.
  • Ability to translate mission requirements into reliable, field-deployable technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with a bias for action.
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain an active secret clearance; current active secret clearance preferred.

Bonus Points For
  • Experience with sensor fusion, edge computing, or embedded systems integration.
  • Knowledge of low-power communication protocols (LoRa, Zigbee, NB-IoT, LTE-M).
  • Familiarity with DoD or other secure operational environments.
  • Certifications such as Security+, Network+, or CCNA.
  • Experience supporting field deployments in austere or expeditionary conditions.
