How much do hyperloop technologies jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 3, 2026, the average yearly pay for hyperloop technologies in the United States is $101,286.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $70,000.00 and $132,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Hyperloop technology roles, and why are they important?

To excel in Hyperloop technology roles, professionals typically need a background in engineering (mechanical, electrical, or civil), physics, or related fields, often supported by advanced degrees. Familiarity with CAD software, simulation tools, and industry standards such as ASME or ISO, as well as certifications like Professional Engineer (PE), is highly valuable. Strong problem-solving, innovative thinking, and teamwork skills help individuals navigate the challenges of developing new transportation technologies. These skills are critical to ensuring the safe, efficient, and groundbreaking advancement of Hyperloop systems.

What are some common challenges faced by engineers working on Hyperloop technologies, and how can they be addressed?

Engineers working on Hyperloop technologies often encounter challenges such as developing and testing new materials for vacuum tubes, ensuring passenger safety at high speeds, and integrating complex systems like magnetic levitation and propulsion. Collaboration across multidisciplinary teams—including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers—is essential to solve these issues. Staying up-to-date with industry standards and proactively participating in iterative testing cycles can help address these challenges and contribute to a culture of innovation and safety within Hyperloop projects.

What are Hyperloop Technologies?

Hyperloop Technologies are companies and organizations that develop high-speed transportation systems known as Hyperloops. These systems use magnetic levitation and low-pressure tubes to transport passenger or cargo pods at speeds exceeding 600 mph, aiming to provide a faster, more efficient alternative to traditional rail or air travel. Hyperloop technology is still in the development and testing phase, with several companies working to make commercial implementation a reality. The goal is to revolutionize transit by reducing travel time, energy consumption, and environmental impact.

What is the difference between Hyperloop Technologies vs Hyperloop Systems Engineer?

Job description

This role offers the flexibility to work remotely, hybrid, or in-office, depending on your location and project needs. We're actively hiring across all U.S. time zones.

About VIATechnik

VIATechnik is the global leader in Virtual Design and Construction. We have over 350 digital experts around the globe. The firm's services include Virtual Design & Construction (VDC), Building Information Modeling (BIM), Virtual & Augmented Reality, Digital Twins, and Enterprise Software Application Development.

We work on some of the industry's largest and most interesting projects such as Apple's new headquarters, Virgin Hyperloop One, Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) modernization & expansions, Denver International Airport, Chicago O'Hare International Airport, Hudson Yards, the Atlanta Falcons Stadium, Chase Arena, the Tesla Gigafactory and many more. Our team is made up of leading VDC professionals, technologists, architects, and engineers who have a passion for solving problems and a thirst for learning. We are results-driven, creative solution finders and enjoy putting ourselves in our clients' shoes.

About the Role

This is not your typical project management role.

As a Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) Project Manager specializing in mechanical and plumbing (M & P) systems, you'll lead the digital coordination of highly complex scopes across some of the most demanding projects in the industry. This isn't about pushing models - it's about driving results. You'll connect design intent with construction reality, integrating cutting-edge BIM/VDC tools and processes to ensure every system is planned, coordinated, and executed with precision.

Why This Role is a Career Move

This role plays a critical function in helping trade contractors succeed in high-stakes construction environments. You will directly impact how well our clients coordinate with general contractors, design teams, and other trades by delivering precise, timely VDC support from our internal teams. It offers the opportunity to grow into senior delivery leadership positions across VIATechnik's project portfolio. As you demonstrate mastery in managing BIM delivery for trade clients, you may also take on process innovation, training, or account leadership.

What You Will Bring

This position is ideal for individuals who find fulfillment in precision execution, cross-functional collaboration, and acting as the linchpin between internal teams and trade contractor clients. It's a great fit for those who want to make a visible impact without being in a technical production role.

Top 3 Projects You'll Own in Your First Quarter

1. Ensure On-Time Delivery of BIM Services to Trade Contractor Clients – Within the first 90 days, take over management of 2–3 active projects, ensuring all client deadlines, review cycles, and scope commitments are met. Use project management software to track milestones and deliverables. Evaluate where tools can improve visibility or reduce manual tracking tasks.

2. Drive Seamless Collaboration Between Internal Technical Teams and Clients – Within 60 days, establish regular check-ins and workflow reviews between each client and their assigned VDC Manager. Build a shared understanding of scope, change requests, and timeline expectations.

3. Actively Participate in and Contribute to at Least One Company OKR – Within the first 90 days, engage in at least one organizational Objective and Key Result (OKR) initiative. Collaborate with peers and leadership to deliver measurable progress that goes beyond individual project work, such as improving internal processes, knowledge sharing, or client delivery practices.

Culture and Situation Fit

You'll join a client-centric delivery organization that values ownership, adaptability, innovation, and proactive communication where collaboration between roles is essential to success. The VDC Project Manager works in close partnership with technical counterparts and operates within a structured but evolving process framework. Most communication is internal or with trade contractor clients. The pace is fast, and projects run concurrently, requiring strong organizational discipline and a proactive mindset. Leadership encourages autonomy, process innovation, and responsible ownership of outcomes. You'll work with technically strong professionals who are motivated by solving real-world coordination challenges that impact the success of jobsite execution.

Apply if you have:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience with M & P trade contractors or general contractors in VDC, construction technology, or a related role.
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively across organizations.
  • Strong proficiency in project management processes, tools, systems, workflows, and schedules.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency reading and interpreting construction documents (drawings, specifications, schedules).
  • A knack for managing multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.

Even Better if you have:

  • Familiarity with managing BIM and VDC across the project lifecycle including operations and facilities management.
  • Experience with Agile project management methodologies.
  • A track record of effectively working with and/or managing teams remotely.
  • Aptitude for working effectively in an extremely fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
  • A passion for quality and excellence.
  • Proactive, innovative, and adaptable mindset, willingness to think outside of the box and take an "all hands-on deck" approach.

Compensation and Featured Benefits:

  • The pay for this position is $90,000 - $110,000, and the role is eligible for bonuses. The actual salary offer may be different as we carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, location, and experience.
  • Health insurance with the choice of five plan options. We cover 70-95% of premiums for VIATechies and 65% of the premiums for dependents (depending on the plan chosen).
  • Dental and vision insurance. We cover 75% of the monthly insurance premiums for VIATechies and 50% of the premiums for dependents (depending on the plans chosen).
  • Open and flexible time off.
  • A 401(k) plan that is fully vested immediately.
  • Home office setup costs.
  • Paid holidays

Application Information

We'd like to hear your story. During the application process, you'll be asked to submit a short summary (1–2 paragraphs or 1/2 page) of a comparable accomplishment you've delivered. Think about one that is something similar in scope, complexity, or business impact to the challenges described in the job description.
