Job description

We are seeking a TS/SCI-cleared Field Systems Engineer to support the deployment of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solutions across multiple PACAF sites. The engineer will work closely with Cisco and client partners to implement and support VDI environments in secure DoD facilities.
This role includes travel to Fort Gordon, GA Hickam AFB (HI) for SCI Read-On, followed by deployments at Osan AB (South Korea) and Anchorage, AK. Tasks align with a defined Statement of Work and require collaboration with partner engineers and military personnel. We are seeking a skilled Omnissa Horizon Deployment Engineer to lead the deployment of the Omnissa Horizon environment across two sites. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and configuring virtualization infrastructure, including Microsoft Hyper-V clustering, VMware vSphere, and associated software components to ensure a secure, scalable, and highly available virtual desktop environment. This role requires deep expertise in virtualization technologies, security integration, Active Directory, and enterprise infrastructure deployments. Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Deployment
• Verify existing infrastructure for Horizon Virtual Desktop requirements.
• Configure hardware, virtual networks, subnets, and security integration.
• Integrate on-premises data centers with security and privileged access management solutions.
• Design, deploy, and support Microsoft Hyper-V failover clustering environments for high availability and workload resiliency.
• Configure and validate cluster networking, shared storage, live migration, and failover functionality within Hyper-V environments. VMware vSphere & Hyper-V Implementation
• Verify and configure ESXi hosts on up to twelve (12) Cisco UCS servers.
• Deploy VMware vCenter Server Appliances (vCSA) and configure management networking.
• Create Desktop and Management clusters, configure DRS and HA, and add ESXi hosts to clusters.
• Configure vSphere distributed switches, vMotion networking, and VLAN distributed port groups.
• Deploy, configure, and maintain Hyper-V clusters, including Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV), failover policies, and virtual machine high availability.
• Support hybrid virtualization environments utilizing both VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V technologies. Omnissa Horizon Implementation
• Deploy Windows Server virtual machines and install Horizon Connection Server software.
• Configure Horizon policies, settings, Events Database, and Active Directory integration.
• Configure Horizon Edge Gateway, load balancing, and certificate installation. App Volumes and Unified Access Gateway
• Deploy and configure Omnissa App Volumes software and templates.
• Deploy Unified Access Gateways using PowerShell and configure remote access settings. Nvidia GRID Deployment
• Deploy Nvidia DLS license appliances and configure DLS fault tolerance and licensing.
• Deploy Nvidia VIBs on ESXi hosts. Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM) and Microsoft FSLogix
• Install DEM Management Console, create file shares, and configure environment settings.
• Deploy Windows desktop VMs for Application Profiler and configure FSLogix settings. Active Directory Integration and Virtual Desktop Base Image
• Prepare Horizon and DEM policies via Group Policy Objects (GPOs).
• Create and manage Active Directory organizational units (OUs) and security groups.
• Migrate and optimize virtual desktop base images, integrating required software and customizations. Horizon Pools and Cloud Pod Architecture
• Create Horizon Instant Clone Windows desktop pools.
• Deploy Cloud Pod Architecture, initialize pods, and create global entitlements. Testing and Knowledge Transfer
• Perform Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP) to ensure successful implementation and obtain stakeholder sign-off.
• Conduct knowledge transfer sessions (up to one per site, maximum two hours per session). Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Proven experience deploying and managing VMware vSphere, Omnissa Horizon, and Microsoft Hyper-V clustering environments.
• Strong knowledge of virtualization technologies, high availability configurations, security integration, and Active Directory.
• Hands-on experience with Hyper-V Failover Clustering, Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV), and Live Migration.
• Experience with Nvidia GRID, Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM), and Microsoft FSLogix.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to conduct technical knowledge transfer sessions. Preferred Skills
• VMware, Microsoft, or related infrastructure certifications.
• Experience with Pure Storage and Cisco UCS servers.
• Familiarity with load balancing and certificate management.
• Experience supporting hybrid VMware and Hyper-V enterprise environments.
