Position Summary
System One is seeking a System Design Engineer to support advanced nuclear reactor projects. This role focuses on system design, analysis, and supplier oversight, supporting complex fluid systems within a highly regulated environment.
The ideal candidate will act as a system-level engineer, working across multiple disciplines to develop, integrate, and refine system designs from concept through commissioning. This is a highly collaborative role within a high-performing team of engineers and scientists.
Responsibilities
  • Design fluid systems from requirements development through final design and commissioning
  • Perform technical trade studies to refine system performance and design decisions
  • Oversee suppliers during development and fabrication of processing, filtration, and monitoring equipment
  • Review component designs and assess impacts on overall system performance
  • Develop system-level engineering documentation, including technical specifications and operational narratives
  • Identify and resolve system integration issues across plant-level designs
  • Support and participate in design reviews throughout the project lifecycle
  • Develop and review technical documents such as System Design Descriptions (SDDs), Interface Control Documents (ICDs), and Engineering Design Specifications
  • Generate complete design packages including calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications
  • Coordinate development of P&IDs, 3D models, and system interface drawings
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, I&C, civil, nuclear) to define system requirements and performance criteria
  • Support testing programs including planning, execution oversight, and evaluation of results
  • Apply relevant design codes and standards including ASME BPVC and B31.3

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in system design or mechanical systems engineering
  • Experience with piping systems and ability to read and develop P&IDs
  • Experience working with suppliers on development and fabrication of equipment
  • Strong understanding of applicable design codes (ASME, BPVC, API)
  • Familiarity with system classifications (safety-related/non-safety-related)
  • Experience with piping design and analysis
  • Experience working within quality programs (NQA-1, AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar)
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to manage competing priorities and constraints
  • Excellent communication, technical writing, and collaboration skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to technical excellence

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in nuclear, power generation, or other highly regulated industries
  • Experience supporting system integration and plant-level design
  • Familiarity with advanced reactor technologies
