Job description

A Snapshot of Your Day
As a Protection Commissioning Engineer, you work on the testing and validation of protection systems for HVDC converter stations and high-voltage power transmission projects. Depending on the project phase, you are deployed either to the test center in Raleigh or at a customer site. In the test center, you perform functional and dynamic testing of protection hardware and software to validate system behavior before shipment. On site, you commission and verify protection and measurement systems during installation, energization, and acceptance. You collaborate closely with control, system, and commissioning teams to ensure safe, selective, and reliable protection performance throughout the HVDC lifecycle.
How You'll Make an Impact
  • Executing commissioning and testing of HVDC direct-current systems and associated protection systems in test centers and at customer sites worldwide
  • Performing functional and dynamic performance testing of protection hardware and software, including customer acceptance testing
  • Commissioning and verifying measuring systems, DC protection functions, and fault recording systems for HVDC projects
  • Analyzing, troubleshooting, and resolving protection-related issues during system integration and commissioning
  • Supporting commissioning management through quality, risk, and continuous-improvement activities to ensure safe and reliable project delivery

What You Bring
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Technology, or a comparable technical qualification
  • Experience or strong foundation in protection engineering, testing, or commissioning of power systems or HVDC installations
  • Knowledge of protection principles, measuring systems, and primary equipment such as current and voltage sensors
  • Experience with testing environments such as PLC-based systems, simulation tools, or protection test setups
  • Structured, analytical working style with strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Willingness to travel worldwide for extended test-center or on-site commissioning assignments
Travel, as needed (~6-9 months in Raleigh, 6-9 months in different location).
