Job description

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs in three schools: Business and Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Hudson Valley is one of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York (SUNY) system and serves nearly 9,000 students each year. The college is a recognized leader in career and transfer preparation, workforce training initiatives, distance learning and service to a diverse population of students. Hudson Valley has an extension center in Malta, NY known as HVCC North and sponsors the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center in Troy, NY. In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not sponsor Visas. Applicants must current legal residents of the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.
 
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS:  Candidates must have been legal residents of New York State for at least FOUR months immediately preceding the date of the test. Pursuant to subdivision 4a of Sec. 23 of the Civil Service Law, preference may be given to successful candidates who have been legal residents of the municipality to which the appointment is to be made for at least FOUR months preceding the date of the written test.
 
This is a provisional appointment. Selected candidate will need to sit, pass and be eligible on the next available Rensselaer County Civil Service Exam for Data Analysis Coordinator I to be considered for permanent appointment. 
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Graduation from a regionally accredited College or University and or a New York State accredited College or University with an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or closely related field 
(OR), High School Diploma or possession of a High School Equivalency and 2 years of experience involving database management. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs is preferred.  
 
DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Data Analysis Coordinator I perform work under direct supervision allowing for some exercise of independent judgment in carrying out assignments in accordance with definitely defined procedures.  The Data Analysis Coordinator I reports to the Director, department head or program director of the Admissions Office and perform the following duties:
 
• Prepare alphanumeric data for entry into database.
 
• Maintains and updates single or several databases through data entry and manipulation of file structure.
 
• Generates reports as assigned using the various fields of the database in a standardized format.
 
• Generates ad hoc reports according to specific instructions.
 
• Contacts internal and external parties to obtain data and report results of analysis.
 
• May perform traditional word processing and clerical functions as assigned.
 
• Supervision may be exercised over the work of subordinate analysis or clerical positions.
 
This is a full-time 12-month, 40-hour work week position with an hourly rate of $22.60. Start date is immediate.
