Job Title: HVAC Service Technician

Job Description

This role focuses on providing commercial HVAC field service across Connecticut, performing preventative maintenance and repair on rooftop and other commercial HVAC systems. You will travel to a variety of commercial sites, use your technical expertise to diagnose and resolve issues, and ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently. After initial training, you will work independently, manage your own service schedule via an iPad, and represent the company professionally at client locations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on commercial HVAC units at client sites such as auto dealerships, living and rehab facilities, strip malls, stand-alone restaurants, and apartment buildings.
  • Inspect, service, and maintain commercial rooftop HVAC units and related systems to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
  • Replace belts, air filters, and motors on HVAC equipment as part of routine maintenance and repair activities.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration issues on commercial HVAC systems using gauges, meters, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Complete repairs on commercial HVAC units in the field, addressing issues identified during troubleshooting and preventative maintenance.
  • Use an iPad to receive, review, and complete work orders, documenting all work performed in a clear and accurate manner.
  • Travel to various commercial locations throughout Connecticut using a company-provided service truck once fully onboarded.
  • Work independently in the field after initial training, managing time effectively and prioritizing service calls to meet client needs.
  • Communicate professionally and clearly with clients on-site, explaining findings, recommended actions, and any follow-up needs.
  • Collaborate with the installation division when major overhauls or full replacements are required, ensuring a smooth transition of work.
  • Follow all safety procedures and best practices while working on HVAC, electrical, and refrigeration equipment at customer locations.
  • Maintain and properly use basic personal hand tools, including gauges and meters, while utilizing specialized tools provided by the company.

Essential Skills

  • Commercial HVAC field service experience, preferably working independently and running a service truck.
  • Hands-on experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial rooftop HVAC units.
  • Proficiency performing preventative maintenance, including changing belts and air filters on commercial HVAC systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and work safely with electrical components within HVAC equipment.
  • Experience with HVAC refrigeration systems and refrigeration equipment in a commercial environment.
  • Strong HVAC maintenance, repair, and service skills with a focus on reliability and quality workmanship.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate a company service truck.
  • Comfort using an iPad or similar tablet to receive, manage, and close out work orders.
  • Ability to work independently in the field after initial training, with strong problem-solving and time-management skills.
  • Professionalism and strong communication skills for face-to-face interaction with clients at their sites.
  • S2 or D2 HVAC license, with 7+ years of directly related commercial field service HVAC technician experience required to be considered at the highest pay level.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with refrigeration systems, boilers, or chillers is a strong plus, especially if you bring specialized expertise in one discipline of HVAC.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints related to HVAC installations and service is beneficial.
  • Experience in installing HVAC or refrigeration equipment is an advantage, even though major installs are handled by a separate division.
  • Willingness to start at a lower pay tier while being trained if you are a less-experienced S2 or D2 license holder.
  • Strong customer-service mindset and the ability to represent the company positively at all commercial client locations.

Why Work Here?

You will be joining a growing organization that is actively expanding its service footprint across the state, creating meaningful opportunities for advancement as new sites and contracts come online. The company is planning for the future, with several tenured technicians approaching retirement in the next few years, which will open clear pathways for promotion and career growth for technicians who join now.
