HVAC/R Technician
Position Highlights
  • Department: Plant Operations
  • Hours: 40.00 per week
  • Shift: Days, 1st Shift

Position Summary:
The HVAC/R Technician is responsible for the operation, monitoring and maintenance of HVAC/R and related physical plant equipment and systems throughout the healthcare system.
  • Must be reliable and perform at a high level of efficiency, while assuring compliance with all applicable codes and regulations.
  • Responsible for a broad spectrum of HVAC/R equipment including; large institutional and commercial heating and cooling system as well as some light commercial and cafeteria refrigeration equipment.
  • Works in partnership with other Engineering and Contractor staff
  • Periodically work off shifts and weekends as requested by supervisor
  • Will respond during off-hours call in to address system failures or other emergencies.

Skills:
  • Comprehensive knowledge in the operation and maintenance of all types of HVAC/R equipment.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Proficient with various computerized building management systems. Knowledge of Siemens or Trane BAS, a plus.
  • Thorough understanding of system sequence of operation and performance protocols,
  • Understanding of air flow characteristics, including room pressurization, differential pressure
  • Understanding of steam fired hydronic heating and cooling systems.
  • Assists other department tradesmen and technicians as needed.
  • Maintain documentation as required for regulatory and institutional purposes.
  • Maintain appropriate spare parts.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school or vocational school graduate, or equivalent.
  • Holds at minimum a current D2 or S2 Connecticut trade license and minimum of 5 years trade related experience in an institutional or commercial setting.
  • Shall have basic working knowledge of physical plant systems, including electrical, HVAC/R, steam, chilled water and plumbing.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment schematics.
  • Ability to work with others of similar and various trades both within the hospital plant operations group and outside contractors.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, strong problem solving and communication skills.
