TITLE: Instructor - Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVAC/R) Technology CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time Faculty - Exempt - Salary DIRECT SUPERVISION RECEIVED FROM: Franklin County Campus Director OFFICE LOCATION(S): 925 Dinah Shore Blvd, Winchester, TN 37398 HOURS: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (minimum 37.5 hours per week) SALARY: $56,263-$67,517 annually, commensurate with education and experience
FUNCTION OF THE JOB:
Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Shelbyville is accepting applications for a Full-Time Instructor in Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVAC/R) Technology. This position is responsible for providing high-quality classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction to high school and adult students, preparing them for employment in residential, commercial, and industrial HVAC/R environments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide individualized classroom and lab instruction to high school and adult students to prepare them for careers in HVAC/R.

  • Deliver and demonstrate instruction in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration in both classroom and lab settings.

  • Demonstrate safe and effective use of industry tools, equipment, and instrumentation.

  • Monitor, evaluate, and document student progress and performance.

  • Maintain accurate student records and submit required reports in a timely manner.

  • Ensure a safe, organized training environment in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and industry safety standards.

  • Assist with student recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with business and industry partners; support advisory committee activities to strengthen program quality and relevance.

  • Participate in ongoing professional development to remain current in HVAC/R industry standards and practices.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (HiSET acceptable).

  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required.

  • Associate degree or diploma from an accredited technical training program in HVAC/R or a related field preferred.

  • 3+ years of approved work experience in the HVAC/R occupation, including:

  • Installation, service, and maintenance of residential, commercial, and/or industrial HVAC/R systems.

  • Technical teaching experience a plus.

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC/R principles, systems, and industry practices.

  • Industry-recognized certifications or technical training in HVAC/R or related fields preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to teach both technical theory and hands-on application in HVAC/R.

  • Ability to teach and effectively engage with high school and adult learners.

  • Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and industry partners.

  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office or similar programs.

  • Knowledge of Safety Data Sheet (SDS) labeling and procedures.

  • Physically able to perform instructional demonstrations and field activities, including climbing, lifting up to 30 lbs., and working in outdoor environments (with or without accommodation).
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.
