Job description


The HVAC Lead Project Technician leads and performs commercial HVAC project work, including equipment change outs, replacements, and new installations. This role is responsible for safely executing projects, guiding field technicians, coordinating with project teams, and ensuring quality installation of packaged and split HVAC systems.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and perform HVAC change outs, replacements, and new installations for commercial facilities.
  • Install and start up packaged rooftop units, split systems, heat pumps, air handlers, condensing units, ducted systems, and related components.
  • Remove existing equipment and reconnect ductwork, refrigerant piping, condensate piping, electrical, controls, gas piping, and accessories.
  • Read and interpret drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, wiring diagrams, and installation manuals.
  • Coordinate daily work with project managers, customers, vendors, subcontractors, and other trades.
  • Perform refrigerant recovery, evacuation, charging, brazing, leak testing, troubleshooting, and system start-up.
  • Provide field direction, training, and support to technicians and apprentices.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily updates, start-up forms, refrigerant logs, and material usage.
  • Follow all company safety policies, customer requirements, OSHA guidelines, and applicable codes.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; HVAC trade school or apprenticeship preferred.
  • 5+ years of commercial HVAC installation, replacement, service, or project experience.
  • Experience leading small crews or serving as a senior field technician preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with change outs, new installs, packaged systems, split systems, refrigerant piping, electrical, controls, start-up, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, specifications, and submittals.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 preferred.

Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, access rooftops, work from lifts, and perform work in mechanical rooms, ceiling spaces, outdoor areas, and active job sites.
Preferred Experience
  • Rooftop unit replacements and curb adapters
  • Crane picks, rigging coordination, and equipment delivery
  • Split system installations, including line sets, condensate piping, control wiring, and start-up
  • Working with general contractors, subcontractors, and multiple trades
