Expert Heating and Cooling specializes in commercial and residential HVAC services throughout Detroit, Michigan and the surrounding areas. We are currently seeking an HVAC Field Project Manager to join our Commercial Division!  As a Field PM, you will play a critical role in leading the successful planning, coordination, and execution of commercial HVAC construction projects.This position is responsible for overseeing field operations and ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in alignment with quality standards and client expectations.

The Field Project Manager works closely with internal teams, field personnel, subcontractors, vendors, engineers, and clients to drive projects from pre-construction through closeout while maintaining strong communication and operational efficiency throughout the project lifecycle.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

  • Collaborate with leadership to define project scope, goals, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, manpower plans, and budget forecasts to support successful project delivery.
  • Review project specifications, drawings, and contract documents to ensure alignment with customer expectations, code requirements, and operational capabilities.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project success.
  • Oversee procurement activities, including material selection, purchasing, vendor coordination, and equipment tracking.
  • Monitor project progress in the field, identify risks or delays, and take proactive steps to keep projects on schedule and within scope.
  • Conduct regular site visits to assess project status, support field teams, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

Field Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and support HVAC field teams, subcontractors, and project support staff throughout all phases of construction.
  • Establish clear expectations, communicate priorities, and maintain accountability across the project team.
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively based on team strengths, workload, and project needs.
  • Promote a collaborative, solutions-focused work environment that supports productivity and continuous improvement.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to field personnel while reinforcing industry best practices and safety standards.

Client Communication & Relationship Management

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients throughout the duration of each project.
  • Provide regular communication regarding project milestones, scheduling updates, and field progress.
  • Manage client expectations and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction from kickoff through closeout.
  • Build strong client relationships that support repeat business and future project opportunities.

Budget & Cost Control

  • Track project costs, labor hours, materials, and subcontractor expenses against budget expectations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and protect project profitability.
  • Review and manage change orders, contract revisions, and scope adjustments to ensure proper approvals and cost recovery.
  • Support billing, forecasting, and financial reporting related to project performance.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all field work is performed in accordance with company standards, project specifications, applicable codes, and safety regulations.
  • Conduct routine quality inspections to verify workmanship and installation standards.
  • Work closely with field leadership and quality control personnel to address deficiencies and implement corrective actions when needed.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety across all job sites.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate project documentation including schedules, progress reports, RFIs, submittals, change orders, and closeout documentation.
  • Provide regular updates to company leadership on project status, risks, financial performance, and key milestones.
  • Ensure projects are properly documented from project start through final completion.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor?s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
  • Proven experience as a Project Engineer, Project Manager, Field Project Manager in HVAC construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, equipment, installation methods, and construction processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead field teams and successfully deliver construction projects.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong understanding of project scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, and risk management.
  • Proficiency with project management software, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office.
  • Relevant HVAC or project management certifications are a plus.
