POSITION OVERVIEW

Receives, stores, and issues materials, equipment, and other items from stockroom, warehouse, or storage yard. Maintains records and compiles stock reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reads production schedule, customer order, work order, shipping order, or requisition to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.
  • Receives and counts stock items, and records data manually or by using a computer.
  • Packs and unpacks items to be stocked on shelves in stockrooms, warehouses, or storage yards.
  • Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code.
  • Verifies inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock, and investigates discrepancies or adjusts errors.
  • Stores items in an orderly and accessible manner in warehouses, tool rooms, supply rooms, or other areas.
  • Marks stock items using identification tags, stamps, electric marking tools, or to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Cleans and maintains supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas in order to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Determines proper storage methods, identification, and stock location based on turnover, environmental factors, and physical capabilities of facilities.
  • Keeps records on the use and /or damage of stock or stock handling equipment.
  • Examines and inspects stock items for wear or defects, reporting any damage to supervisors.
  • Provides assistance or direction to other stockroom, warehouse, or storage yard workers.
  • Drives vehicle such as a hand truck or forklift to transport stored items from warehouse to plant or to pick up items from several locations for shipment.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE  — High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

OTHER SKILLS/CERTIFICATION — Must be forklift certified.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS — Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, supervisors and other Huttig employees.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS  —Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY — Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
