HR Manager

Tutta Bella is a modern social and family friendly pizzeria with locations across Seattle, Bellevue and Issaquah. Tutta Bella is currently seeking a Human Resources Manager to join our team! The Human Resources Manager plays a key role in maintaining compliance with employment regulations and supporting the values and culture of Tutta Bella. They both directly provide HR services and collaborate with other leaders, managers and third-party administrators to deliver a complete function. This role operates as a department of one, responsible for all HR functions across the organization and is responsible for administering HR policies, practices and programs while providing guidance and support to employees and managers. The HR Manager will partner with leadership to align the company's people strategy with its business objectives. Key areas of focus include HR compliance, employee relations, talent management, payroll, benefits and leave administration, training support, and reinforcing Tutta Bella's culture and values.

Key Responsibilities of the Human Resources Manager:
Compliance and Risk Management (30%)
  • Ensure Tutta Bella's overall compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Manage L&I cases with a third-party administrator as part of an industry Retro program.
  • Develop and Oversee our workplace safety programs with support from our TPA.
  • Manage unemployment claims and quarterly filings with our payroll processor.
  • Complete the annual ACA reporting process through our payroll processor.
  • Complete annual EEO-1 filing.
  • Oversee the annual update of required workplace worker rights posters.
  • Lead ADA interactive accommodations processes with location management.
  • Ensure compliance with FLSA rules including overtime, rest breaks, and meal periods.
  • Perform periodic audits of I-9 forms and provide I-9 training to hiring managers.
  • Ensure job postings and hiring tools and processes are compliant with pay transparency and equal opportunity regulations.
  • Conduct annual review and update of employee handbooks.
  • Monitor the regulatory landscape and advise company leadership of relevant changes to federal, state and local regulation.
Payroll (20%)
  • Oversees biweekly payroll processing for all Tutta Bella restaurant and production employees.
  • Leads payroll system implementation or migration, coordinating with IT.
  • Serves as primary liaison with payroll provider for reporting and audits. Respond to employee paycheck inquiries.
Employee Relations (20%)
  • Review progressive discipline processes with location management.
  • Participate in disciplinary meetings as needed.
  • Lead investigations into employee complaints.
  • Support location management by providing policy interpretations.
  • Support location management in conflict resolution processes.
  • Support the Director of Restaurant Operations in delivering management accountability.
Recruitment and Talent Management (10%)
  • Draft and list job postings in alignment with location staffing needs.
  • Maintain job postings using our recruitment platforms.
  • Process and review employee terminations and rehires.
  • Collaborate with location management to ensure the completion of employee orientations, onboarding and training.
  • Support the restaurant and production teams in planning hiring to meet staffing needs while managing labor costs.
Compensation and Benefits (10%)
  • Manage employee leaves including FMLA, WAPFML and other protected leaves.
  • Lead the annual open enrollment process.
  • Respond to employee inquiries about health insurance and other benefits programs.
  • Collaborate with the finance team on annual health and other benefits renewals.
  • Conduct periodic compensation reviews for all positions.
  • Maintain an understanding of our tip-pool program and ensure its compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Act as a liaison between our benefits brokers and providers and the company and our employees.
  • Collaborate with location management and the finance team on performance and compensation review processes.
  • Support manager bonus programs.
Organizational Development (5%)
  • Lead change management processes for new company policies.
  • Coach managers on team communication and accountability.
  • Establish a presence in all our locations and demonstrate our culture and values.
Business Alignment and Strategy (5%)
  • Monitor and report on HR analytics to company leadership to support strategic planning.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for and maintain the company's HRIS and other employee records.
  • Draft new company policies in alignment with strategic goals and values.
Additional Duties
  • Support and contribute to Welcome to Tutta Bella, Welcome to the Hub and other new-employee onboarding processes.
  • Maintain the list of drivers included on the company's automotive liability insurance policy.
  • Support employee appreciation programs.
  • Actively monitor the ever-changing legal landscape of Seattle, Washington state and the restaurant and food manufacturing industries.

What the successful Human Resources Manager will have:
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in human resources, business administration, or another relevant field.
  • 7+ years of experience in HR functions including payroll, benefits administration, investigations, workplace safety programs, recruitment.
  • 3-5+ years of experience as an HR Generalist or Manager.
  • A robust understanding of federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with MS Office 365 including Teams, Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred qualifications
  • SHRM-CP, PHR or other similar HR certification
  • Demonstrated fluency and literacy in Spanish
  • Strong working experience with ADP, Toast & CTUIT
  • Experience in the hospitality, restaurant or production fields is highly desired

Additional Eligibility Requirements:
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States of America without sponsorship.
  • Must have ready access to a reliable vehicle in alignment with regular travel to Tutta Bella locations in the greater Seattle area.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • This position is subject to a background check in compliance with state and local regulations.

Compensation Range:
  • $120,000 to $140,000 annually, DOE
