What is a human performance lab?

A Human Performance Lab is a specialized facility where experts study and measure various aspects of human physical and physiological performance. These labs use advanced equipment to assess factors like strength, endurance, flexibility, metabolism, and biomechanics. The data collected helps athletes, researchers, and clinicians optimize training programs, prevent injuries, and improve overall human health and performance. Human Performance Labs are commonly found in universities, sports organizations, and healthcare settings.

How does collaboration typically occur between human performance lab staff and other departments within an organization?

Collaboration in a Human Performance Lab often involves close interaction with departments such as sports coaching, physical therapy, nutrition, and research teams. Lab staff regularly share data and insights to inform training programs, injury prevention strategies, and performance optimization initiatives. Effective communication and interdisciplinary teamwork are essential, as lab findings directly influence decision-making for athlete development or employee wellness programs. This collaborative environment not only broadens professional experience but also fosters a culture of continuous learning and innovation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a human performance lab specialist, and why are they important?

A Human Performance Lab Specialist typically needs a background in exercise science, kinesiology, or a related field, with experience in physiological assessments and data analysis. Familiarity with laboratory equipment such as metabolic carts, motion analysis systems, and software like SPSS or MATLAB is important. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams are valuable soft skills. These competencies ensure accurate data collection, meaningful research insights, and the safe, ethical conduct of human performance studies.

Job description

About Fullscript

We're an industry-leading health technology company on a mission to help people get better. We started in 2011 with one simple idea. Make it easier for practitioners to access the products they trust so they can deliver better care.

That simple idea grew into a platform that powers every part of care. Today, more than 125,000 practitioners use Fullscript for clinical insights, lab interpretations, patient analytics, education, and access to high-quality supplements. Over 10 million patients rely on Fullscript to stay connected to their care plans and follow through on treatment.

We build tools that make care smarter and more human. Tools that save time, simplify decisions, and help practitioners stay closely connected to the people they care for. When everything they need is in one place, they can focus on what matters most: helping people get better.

This is your invitation.

Bring your ideas, your grit, and your care for people.
Join us and shape the future of care.
The Opportunity

We're hiring a Lead Data Scientist to be the analytics owner for one of Fullscript's fastest-growing segments.

This is a rare shape of role: the scope of a head of analytics with the autonomy of a senior IC. You'll partner directly with the GM, Finance, Product and Commercial leaders to answer the questions that determine where the business invests next. That starts with a deep understanding of who our customers are and how they actually use the product, and it runs through owning the experimentation engine that tests our bets.

The focus for this role is around using analytics to drive performance: understanding results, designing/executing experiments, and telling leadership what's true and what to do about it.

This role is a foundational hire - you'll shape how analytics operates in this segment, with the opportunity to grow the function over time.

What you'll do
  • Own experimentation (the heart of the role). Partner with Product and Commercial teams to design, run, and read growth experiments - from framing the hypothesis and sizing the test to calling the result and pushing the decision. Bring rigor (power analysis, causal inference, guardrail metrics) to a business moving fast.
  • Build the reporting backbone. Own the core dashboards and self-serve tooling the segment runs on, evolving an AI-augmented reporting stack that already automates much of the routine work. Your job is to make performance easy to understand for execs.
  • Generate insight, not just analysis. Break down revenue and margin performance into drivers - volume, mix, pricing, cohort behavior - and proactively tell us where growth is coming from, where it's leaking, and what to do next.
  • Keep the data foundation healthy. Manage the partnership with our central Data Engineering team to make sure the segment's core data models and pipelines support the analytics.
Sharpen the forecast. Support Strategic Finance with driver-based revenue forecasting analytics, connecting operational signals to financial outcomes.
What you bring to the table
  • 6+ years in data science, growth analytics, or quantitative business roles, with real depth in experimentation and causal inference - you've designed and shipped tests that changed business decisions
  • Strong SQL and Python, and comfort working directly in large, imperfect datasets without a support team
  • A track record of operating autonomously: scoping ambiguous questions, prioritizing your own roadmap, and driving work to a decision without close management
  • Executive-grade communication: you can walk a GM through why a metric moved and what to do about it, in plain language
  • Strong business judgment: you understand how growth, product usage, and operational drivers connect to revenue and contribution margin
  • Customer obsession: you instinctively ground analysis in how real practitioners and patients use the product, and treat understanding their behavior as the source of good decisions
  • Experience in marketplace, eCommerce, SaaS, or healthcare businesses at scale
Bonus if you have
  • Experience partnering with FP&A or strategic finance teams
  • Experience building metric trees or driver-based performance frameworks
  • Hands-on use of AI tools (LLMs, agents) in your analytics workflow
  • Exposure to BI tools such as Sigma, Looker, Tableau, or Power BI
  • Experience mentoring or managing analysts
What we can offer you
  • Remote-first flexibility to work where you work best, with Ottawa, Toronto, or Calgary preferred for this role.
  • Flexible PTO and competitive pay, because work-life balance matters
  • RRSP/401k match and stock options to invest in your future
  • Premium benefits package with customizable coverage, paramedical services, and an HSA.
  • Fullscript discounts to save on high-quality wellness products
  • Continuous learning opportunities to grow your skills and career
