Job description

The Emergency Response Call Intake Specialist internship program is designed for students interested in maintaining a sustainable environment. The intern will be responsible for assisting the team with answering and triaging incoming calls related to environmental emergencies and incidents. This role is the first point of contact in the response process and requires accuracy, urgency, and professionalism in collecting critical information, initiating documentation, and communicating with internal teams. Interns can expect to participate in networking events and complete a final presentation at the conclusion of the program. We are searching for a reliable and team-oriented individual with an excellent commitment to safety to join our growing team during the Summer of 2026!

What does it take to work for Clean Harbors?

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be pursuing a bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline, Business Management, Accounting, Project Management, Emergency Management, etc. and be in their Junior or Senior year.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and reliable transportation 
  • Successfully complete a background check, drug test, and physical, by position
  • Ability to perform physical functions per job requirements

  • Help document incident details accurately in internal systems (ALERT) 
  • Support routing calls to the appropriate team based on urgency and type of event 
  • Help track active calls and provide updates until they are handed off to the response team 
  • Gather key information from callers (location, incident details, materials involved, safety concerns) 
  • Maintain clear communication logs and assist with required documentation 
  • Communicate with clients and internal teams to help keep everyone informed 
  • Return calls, emails, and messages promptly to support timely service 
  • Monitor ongoing situations and assist with sharing updates as needed 
  • Follow company guidelines to maintain professionalism, accuracy, and confidentiality
