The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated & dynamic people leader with demonstrated technical capability and experience leading hardware development of program execution milestones. A proven leader that can focus and inspire cross-functional teams to achieve aspirational goals. Someone with the patience and persistence to develop emerging suppliers and cutting-edge technologies in a rapid time frame. An individual with humility, business acumen, and political savvy to navigate the dynamic and demanding pace necessary to execute customer hardware components related to products of device charging.

What You'll Do

  • Lead a team of Design Release Engineers to accelerate development, integration, release, and validation of electrical hardware components including modules for wireless phone charging and USB ports.
  • Spear head the conceptualization/development/execution of a centralized device charging module to provide industry leading device charging experience.
  • Lead people resources and work alignment (visibility of projects & workload).
  • Lead global cross-functional activities which drive launch execution
  • Primary interface representing Engineering in the Quad with Product, Program, and Systems teams
  • Interface heavily with advance vehicle development teams to ensure integration requirement compliance along with creating a minimal device package to enable Studio designs.
  • Develop, document, and implement standard work and best practices.
  • Highlight & implement strategies to foster GM behavioral characteristics.
  • Provide opportunities for career growth and professional development.
  • Lead employee performance through timely and candid constructive feedback.
  • Develop strategic action plans to support business goals.
  • Drive process discipline to execute hardware with quality (on time engineering deliverables, thorough DFMEAs, change management with rigor, lesson learned documentation, closed loop learning, etc) while demonstrating judgement and flexibility for necessary pivots.
  • Communicates status with senior leadership, including program teams and suppliers.
  • Translates business objectives to actionable deliverables.
  • People leadership: Attract new talent, train, develop, mentor, and manage employee performance.
  • Responsible for budget requirements and compliance.
  • Drive for reduced warranty spend via design robustness along with ensuring the team has the correct service procedures and part documentation.
  • Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products.
  • Coach and lead suppliers to timely execution of program deliverables with perfection.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Computer Science
  • Minimum of 8 years of related engineering experience
  • PCB layout knowledge
  • Device charging experience; phones or device collection mechanisms
  • Interior / creative design interface experience
  • Understanding of electronics hardware design, development, and validation
  • Strong interpersonal skills: ability to work within GM, suppliers, and with program teams
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple activities
  • Ability to self-motivate / self-direct
  • Ability to network and run effective meetings with diverse participants
  • Data driven, evidence-based issue-investigation and root cause analysis
  • Experience in leading projects and people including identifying and removing roadblocks
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills
  • Knowledge and experience with design release system and process, manufacturing process, and vehicle validation process.
  • Design for Six Sigma training and experience
  • Ability to travel 5% (international & domestic)

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master's degree in Engineering
  • Experience with Component Statement of Requirements (SOR) and Component Technical Specification (CTS) development and change document management
  • Experience with automotive PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) quality processes
  • Experience with "DRE Essentials" methods and tools
  • Experience in balancing and mitigating risks with projects, suppliers, quality, and production
  • Identify & lead staffing initiatives for work team
  • Craft specific communication on vision & strategy
  • DFMEA training
  • DFSS Black Belt Certification
  • Design/Development of Safety Critical Systems/Components

Company Vehicle:

Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.
