Job description

Reporting to a Senior Marketing Manager, the Salesforce Marketing Cloud Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and deploying advanced marketing automation solutions across email, journey orchestration, mobile push, and analytics platforms. This includes architecting multi-channel journeys, developing data extensions, configuring automation workflows, enabling mobile push messaging, and building analytics dashboards to support enrollment and student engagement goals. The Salesforce Marketing Cloud Developer will work closely with marketing, admissions, and IT teams to translate business requirements into scalable, data-driven SFMC solutions.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Designs, develops, and maintains responsive HTML email templates, dynamic content blocks, and reusable Content Builder assets aligned to brand standards and accessibility requirements.
  • Works with clients to understand their needs and develop creative concepts.
  • Configures and manages mobile push notification campaigns in MobilePush, including audience targeting, message personalization, and in-app messaging using AMPscript and JSON.
  • Conducts quality assurance testing across email clients, mobile devices, and journey entry/exit conditions; ensure compliance with CAN-SPAM, TCPA, and institutional communication policies prior to deployment.
  • Works closely with the marketing team to gather requirements, brainstorm ideas, and execute email marketing campaigns.
  • Tests and debugs email campaigns before they are sent out to subscribers.
  • Builds and maintains analytics reporting using SFMC Intelligence (Datorama), Email Studio tracking, and custom SQL queries; develop performance dashboards and deliver actionable insights to stakeholders on open rates, click-through rates, journey conversions, and campaign ROI.
  • Develops and maintains Salesforce Marketing Cloud integrations with other systems.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves email deliverability, journey logic, automation failure, and mobile push deployment issues; monitor sender reputation, bounce management, and suppression list hygiene.
  • Works with IT to create data extensions and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
  • Stays up-to-date on the latest design trends and technologies.
  • Collaborates with other team members including designers, developers, and marketing professionals.
  • Maintains regular and timely attendance, reports to work as scheduled and as required to meet the needs of the College/University and assures time worked and/or time-off is recorded properly.
  • Exercises care, proper use and maintenance of department equipment and supplies and identifies unsafe conditions and makes appropriate adjustments.
  • Adheres to College/University policies and procedures and conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the College/University's Code of Ethical Conduct, Compliance Agreement, Sexual Harassment Policy or any of its policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, and applicable professional standards.
  • May be involved in managing personnel planning for the function, including interviewing, selection, counseling, and evaluation of performance to ensure effective operations and staff engagement. Explores enrichment opportunities for staff such as seminars, specialized training and mentorships.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, web development, or a related field.
Experience & Skills
  • 5+ years of experience in email development.
  • Advanced knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is required; proficiency in AMPscript and Server-Side JavaScript (SSJS) for dynamic content and SFMC scripting is essential.
  • Experience working in Salesforce Marketing Cloud products, including Email Studio, Mobile Studio (MobilePush & SMS), Automation Studio, Content Builder, Journey Builder, Contact Builder, Intelligence (Datorama), and Advertising Studio.
  • Mobile push notification development experience, including segmentation, personalization, deep linking, and behavioral trigger configuration within SFMC MobilePush.
  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud certifications preferred (Email Specialist, Developer, Consultant, or Administrator); additional Salesforce CRM certifications a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of best practices of HTML email development and testing platforms.
  • Email template management.
  • Data list management.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Knowledge of call center integration.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Email and text messaging programs.
  • Strong visual design skills.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite 5 & Photoshop Illustrator preferred.
  • Skills: Has a strong understanding of digital design principles, as well as experience in working with a variety of design software.
  • Ability to work comfortably with associates at all levels.
  • Ability to think strategically and understand the big picture before the details.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize; demonstrate excellent organizational skills; follow through and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work comfortably and efficiently in a collaborative setting.
  • Ability to respond to changes and adapt quickly.
  • Proficiency with a suite of MS Office programs and presentation skills.
  • Experience with highly regulated industries is preferred but is not required.
