Job description

Printing Press Operator Pay Rate:
  • $25-$35/hr
Printing Press Operator Job Summary:
As the Printing Press Operator, you will be responsible for performing manual and machine operator tasks related to the setup, maintenance and operations of the press and for the quantitative and qualitative press performance.

Printing Press Operator Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Operate web printing press to print quality production, maintain quality of product, lead and direct press crew, maintain press, and work on other operation duties as directed by the supervisors.
  • Set up, adjust, operate, and maintain multi-color web offset
  • Review job specifications to determine the press setup according to the imposition of the run.
  • Ensure that all make-ready tasks are done which are associated with the press such as hanging plates, examining plates/cylinders for imperfections and checking for correct positioning of images, prepping blankets, adjusting tension and register etc.
  • Make necessary color corrections and/or press adjustments prior to production run to meet and maintain the quality specifications of the work.
  • Ensure that the press is clean, lubricated, and maintained, making minor repairs and replacing worn or broken parts as required. Perform periodic maintenance as recommended by the manufacturer. Notify supervisor and the maintenance department of issues with the equipment.
  • Maintain a safe and injury free work environment.
  • Must be able to identify colors
  • Responsible for all aspects of the operation of the press.
  • Responsible for overall quality of the printed product including color reproduction, product specifications, imaging quality and postal specifications.
  • Provide accurate documentation of time, materials, impressions, waste, and run speeds.
  • Communicate information effectively with managers and other departments, such as scheduling, prepress, maintenance.
  • Must be able to work a full-time shift, with some overtime as needed.
  • Other duties may be assigned
Printing Press Operator Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Proven experience working as a pressman
  • Knowledge of material requirements
  • Math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers and fractions
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain close attention to detail for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work overtime as mandated by production needs.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of production processes and quality control
  • Strong Verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with all levels of employees
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • In-depth knowledge of the industry
  • Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision

Printing Press Operator Education and Experience:
  • High School graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a fast-paced production environment Preferred
  • Minimum 2 years' experience operating a web press Preferred

Printing Press Operator Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
  • Required to stand for long periods of time, bend, reach and move about the facility
  • Continuous standing/walking - 10 hours or more.
  • Required to grip twist and turn both hands for long periods of time
