Job description

PPS is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic for our shop in Coburg, OR.

The mechanic will be responsible for the maintenance, inspection, diagnosis, and repair of heavy equipment machinery and components, primarily in outdoor settings where the equipment is used.

This is a full-time, permanent, direct hire role with excellent benefits and a high ceiling for growth!

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Efficiently and effectively diagnose and perform service repairs as directed and ensure the proper completion of each to the customer's satisfaction
  • Ensure that all required parts, materials, and supplies necessary to complete the repair are ordered and obtained
  • Identify and arrange for the procurement of additional items as needed after initial inspection and diagnosis of the service repair
  • Adhere to all safety and environmental regulations and guidelines necessary during repair and ensure work area is properly cleaned upon completion
  • Ensure that the service manager is kept informed of completed repairs and communicate any problems or issues found that extend beyond the scope of the original service repair
  • Build and maintain an adequate level of tools necessary to perform the service requirements
  • Document and maintain proper records of time spent on each repair, parts and materials used, and detailed descriptions of work performed
  • Prepare and submit expense reports accompanied with the appropriate receipts timely
  • Maintain the service vehicle provided, and all equipment and tooling within, in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion, and in compliance with all safety and environmental regulations
  • Notify Service Manager of any tooling, shop, yard, or vehicle requirements or deficiencies
  • Continue with service training education to enhance knowledge and service capabilities, and remain current on new technologies
  • Ensure professional communications and appearance with customers and coworkers

EXPERIENCE

  • 3-5 years of experience in diagnostic and repair work on heavy machinery is preferred

KNOWLEDGE

  • Good working knowledge of equipment operations and mechanical functions required
  • Must have a basic understanding of hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems
  • Must possess and be able to develop good mechanical and diagnostic skills and good problem-solving capabilities
  • Must also possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be physically capable of performing service repairs on heavy equipment
  • Must be able to read and interpret technical service information, manuals, bulletins, blue prints, and schematics
  • Must be highly motivated and able to perform well with little supervision
  • Must be customer service oriented and able to work productively with customers and employees
  • Work is performed approximately 80% outdoors, when performing maintenance on construction, forestry and other heavy equipment.
  • Employee spends approximately 20% of the time inside a truck to drive to and from job sites.
  • Employee is exposed to weather conditions, vibration, moving mechanical parts, heights, dust, fumes, and sharp objects.
  • Work environment varies on construction and forestry job sites.
  • Worker must be able to climb in and out of heavy equipment and truck frequently during the work day.
  • Valid CDL-B license required.
