Summary
Adjunct instructors in the skilled trades programs are responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to students enrolled in the skilled trades for courses in the following programs:
โ€ข Registered Apprenticeship to include Electrical, HVACR, Plumbing, Carpentry
โ€ข Industry Recognized Credentialing programs in the trades, including:
o NCCER curricula
o OSHA training
o Construction
o Maintenance
o Green job certifications
o Additional related programming
Instructors will utilize multiple teaching methods, including online instruction, face to face skills training and simulation activities. Instructors will be responsible for coordinating and facilitating the student experience.
Essential Role Responsibilities
โ€ข Deliver instructional material as scheduled in a safe manner
โ€ข Facilitate learning and engagement during scheduled course(s)
โ€ข Assess student understanding during each class
โ€ข Collect, grade and report assignments and homework
โ€ข Assess and monitor student progress and understanding while providing meaningful feedback
โ€ข Provide academic advice and guidance to students
โ€ข Maintain and update course materials and syllabus to maintain current industry best practices
โ€ข Use multiple methods of engagement, including hands on and lecture
โ€ข Record grades and attendance
โ€ข Adhere to policies and procedures and requirements of teaching at Howard Community College
Minimum Education Required
Experience Required
โ€ข 3-5 years minimum trade experience in the field required
โ€ข Teaching experience required
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
  • Attainment of journeyworker or equivalent industry recognized credential required, master level preferred
  • Industry Certifications must be current if applicable
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written required.
  • Exhibit a strong desire to support student success and prepare students for employment in the workforce
  • Technology proficiency is required, as well as access to high speed internet and computer.

A minimum of two references is required
