What is a housing relocation welding?

A Housing Relocation Welding job involves performing welding tasks related to the relocation or installation of housing structures, such as mobile homes, modular buildings, or prefabricated units. Welders in this role typically reinforce frames, repair metal components, and ensure structural integrity during transportation and setup. They work with various welding techniques and materials to secure foundations, support beams, and other critical parts. Safety and compliance with building codes are essential in this job.

What are the typical challenges encountered in housing relocation welding roles?

Housing Relocation Welding professionals often face challenges such as working in environments with tight or confined spaces and needing to adapt to variable jobsite conditions. Projects frequently require precise measurements, attention to structural safety, and coordination with moving or construction teams. Welders may need to address unexpected structural issues during the relocation process, necessitating quick problem-solving and flexibility. These challenges make the work dynamic but provide valuable experience and opportunities to develop strong technical and collaborative skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in housing relocation welding?

To excel in Housing Relocation Welding, you need proficiency in various welding techniques, blueprint reading, and experience with structural metal fabrication, often supported by a welding certification or trade school diploma. Familiarity with equipment such as MIG, TIG, and arc welders, as well as operating hoists or cranes, is typically required. Job description

Company Description

Verustruct is developing a suite of robotic construction technologies to automate the building of affordable, sustainable, safe, and aesthetically appealing housing. The company's mission is to help close the U.S. housing gap of 4.5 million homes by transforming how residential structures are designed and built. Verustruct focuses on integrating advanced robotics, automation, and novel construction methods into practical, scalable solutions. Team members collaborate across disciplines to bring next-generation construction systems from concept to field deployment, with a strong emphasis on real-world impact and long-term sustainability.

About the Role

You'll own mechanical design for the machines at the core of Verustruct's robotic construction platform. Working closely with controls, materials, structural engineering, and manufacturing, you'll take complex hardware subsystems from concept through CAD, analysis, prototyping, testing, and deployment. This role is for someone who is excited to build real machines, iterate quickly, and help define the mechanical architecture of a new category of construction technology.

What You'll Do
  • Design mechanical subsystems for wall-supported robotic construction equipment, including automated formwork, locomotion, material delivery, consolidation, and auxiliary construction tools
  • Drive component selection, tolerance analysis, structural analysis, DFM, and fabrication strategy for in-house and vendor-supported builds
  • Lead build, bring-up, testing, and iteration of next-generation prototype systems
  • Work cross-functionally with controls, electrical, materials, and structural engineering to integrate hardware into a coordinated robotic construction platform
  • Develop design standards, documentation practices, and engineering workflows as the mechanical team grows
  • Mentor junior engineers and interns while helping set the technical bar for hardware development
Additional Details

Verustruct is committed to building a high-performing team and compensating employees fairly as we scale from early technical validation into real-world deployment. For this role, the expected total annual compensation package range (salary + equity) is: Senior Mechanical Engineer: $135,000-$165,000 Lead Mechanical Engineer: $160,000-$185,000 Final compensation will depend on experience level, technical depth, leadership scope, and fit for the role. Our compensation package includes optionality for a meaningful equity portion designed to reward early employees for helping build Verustruct into a category-defining company.

What We're Looking For
  • 7+ years of mechanical design experience in robotics, heavy machinery, industrial automation, construction equipment, aerospace, automotive, or similarly complex hardware systems
  • Strong CAD fluency, ideally in Siemens NX or equivalent, with experience taking designs from concept to fabricated hardware
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, test planning, failure analysis, and rapid iteration
  • Strong understanding of mechanisms, structures, actuators, bearings, tolerances, materials, and manufacturability
  • Experience with FEA, topology optimization, welded structures, sheet metal, machined parts, or large-format assemblies is a strong plus
  • Track record of shipping or deploying complex electromechanical systems in real-world environments
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving startup environment where design, analysis, fabrication, and testing happen in tight loops
Benefits include
  • Health insurance: Silver PPO plan, 80% company-paid, with optional dental and vision coverage
  • Retirement: 401(k) plan with 4% employer match
  • Time off: Flexible PTO policy and observed federal holidays
  • Relocation support: Available for exceptional candidates relocating to the Los Angeles / Torrance area
  • High-ownership role: Opportunity to help lead mechanical engineering for a venture-backed robotics company tackling housing affordability
