Job description

A warm, busy family is seeking an experienced and dependable after school Nanny & Family Assistant to support their household and two school-aged children (4th grade and 6th grade). This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who enjoys working with older children and can confidently balance childcare with family assistant responsibilities.

The family is looking for someone who will become a trusted, long-term part of their household. The ideal candidate is warm and engaging with the children, organized and proactive around the home, and comfortable taking ownership of the afternoon and evening routine.

SCHEDULE

  • Monday–Friday, approximately 2:00-9:00 PM
  • 35 hours per week guaranteed
  • Occasional weekend flexibility may be requested with advance notice
  • Approximately 3–4 overnight stays per year, planned in advance
  • No family travel required

RESPONSIBILITIES

Childcare & Transportation
  • School pickup and transportation to activities, appointments, playdates, and other commitments
  • Help manage after-school schedules and keep track of school events, activities, permission slips, and other important details
  • Provide homework help and support with school projects as needed
  • Coordinate playdates and provide age-appropriate supervision and engagement
  • Keep afternoon and evening routines running smoothly, including helping the children prepare for the following school day
  • Maintain clear communication with parents regarding schedules, school needs, activities, and any changes
  • Build a positive, trusting relationship with both children while encouraging age-appropriate independence

Family & Household Support
  • Prepare simple, kid-friendly meals and snacks
  • Handle the children's laundry, including washing, folding, and putting away
  • Help maintain organization and general tidiness in the children's spaces and common areas
  • Light housekeeping and household upkeep related to the children
  • Keep the kitchen tidy following meals and snacks
  • Assist with other reasonable family-assistant tasks as needed

The family employs professional housekeeping three days per week, so this is not a deep-cleaning position. A chef is also in the home on Tuesdays to prepare meals for the parents.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is:

  • Experienced working with school-aged children
  • Warm, engaging, and able to build a genuine relationship with older children
  • Dependable, punctual, and an excellent communicator
  • Organized and proactive, with a family-assistant mindset
  • Comfortable working in a home where a parent works remotely
  • Confident preparing simple, kid-friendly meals
  • Comfortable around dogs; the family has a friendly 26 lb. mini Goldendoodle
  • A safe and confident driver with a clean driving record
  • Looking for a long-term position with one family
  • Candidates must have their own reliable vehicle for transporting the children
  • Local candidates only (Houston or surrounding area)

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • $35 per hour for a salary of approximately $63,700 (based on 35 guaranteed hours)
  • Overtime for 40+ hours
  • Additional compensation for overnight stays
  • 2 weeks PTO
  • 3 paid sick days
  • 2 paid personal days
  • Most major federal holidays paid off
  • Mileage reimbursement
  • Annual performance reviews with opportunities for performance-based bonuses
  • Potential medical stipend to be discussed

WHY THIS FAMILY?

This family values consistency, communication, and someone who genuinely enjoys being part of the daily rhythm of a household. They hope to find a Nanny & Family Assistant who can build a great relationship with their children while making afternoons and evenings easier, more organized, and enjoyable for the entire family.
