Waste Management Specialist -  Nuclear Fuel Services  -  Erwin, TN

Summary Description of Job:

This position is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the NFS Transportation/Waste Management (T/WM) programs are compliant with federal and state waste regulations.  Specific attributes include waste characterization, packaging, storage, and disposition including compliance with RCRA, TSCA, NRC and DOT. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities of Job:

  • Interface with on-site waste generators to develop solutions to technical problems associated with T/WM.
  • Provide direction to waste generators for adherence to on-site and off-site waste acceptance criteria.
  • Review and approve work requests, procedures, and drawings detailing proposed process changes and determine waste characterization, packaging, storage and disposal strategies.  Waste streams included are RCRA, low level radioactive waste, mixed waste, PCB waste, and sanitary waste.
  • Develop/revise waste characterization document.
  • Prepare sampling and analysis plans in accordance with EPA guidance documents and SW-846.
  • Interpret laboratory analytical data and characterize material for disposal in accordance with applicable regulations and disposal/treatment facilities waste acceptance criteria.

Educational Requirements of Job:

Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering, Waste Management, Environmental Science or related science, engineering, or technical field OR 8 years of equivalent experience acceptable in lieu of degree.

Experience Requirements of Job (Beyond educational or equivalent requirements):

Three (3) to Five (5) years experience since degree.  Must have a working knowledge of RCRA, DOT, and radioactive waste management pertaining to the packaging and management of hazardous, radioactive, and mixed waste.

Pay: $76,000 - $119,000

 The base salary range for this position in Tennessee (US-TN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $76,000 and $119,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,' unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
