Job description

About the Role:

As a member of the Product and Engineering team at PitchBook, you will be part of a team of big thinkers, innovators, and problem solvers who strive to deepen the positive impact we have on our customers and our company every day. We value curiosity and the drive to find better ways of doing things. We thrive on customer empathy, which remains our focus when creating excellent customer experiences through product innovation.

We know that greatness is achieved through collaboration and diverse points of view, so we work closely with partners around the globe. As a team, we assume positive intent in each other's words and actions, value constructive discussions, and foster a respectful working environment built on integrity, growth, and business value. We invest heavily in our people, who are eager to learn and constantly improve. Join our team and grow with us!

We are seeking a highly strategic, engineeringfluent Director, Technology Business Operations/Chief of Staff to operate the Office of the EVP, Technology & Engineering and amplify the impact of our technology leadership across a global Technology organization (500+ employees). You'll translate strategy into execution, run the operating cadence, and drive crossfunctional alignment so Product Engineering, Data Collection Technology, AI/ML, Enterprise Technology, and Technology Operations deliver reliably against company priorities. You will combine technical depth with program rigor - able to interrogate proposals, shape architecture decisions, and accelerate outcomes on the most important bets. Success looks like a predictable operating system, sharper portfolio choices, and visible improvements in delivery velocity and reliability.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a thought partner to the EVP, shaping priorities, sequencing big bets, and maintaining a transparent risk & decision log
  • Translate strategy into OKRs, KPIs, and investment theses; ensure capacity/headcount plans and budgets align to those bets
  • Lead annual and quarterly planning (OKRs, capacity, headcount) and ensure roadmaps across Technology & Engineering functions
  • Run the technical RFC process and technology review cadence; drive crisp designdoc hygiene and decision records
  • Partner with platform/data/ML/security leaders to ensure alignment across cloud strategy, data platforms (e.g., Snowflake), AI initiatives, and engineering metrics; elevate tradeoffs to the EVP when needed
  • Lead buildvsbuy with TCO/ROI, risk, and vendor diligence (with Security/Legal); oversee platform migrations and critical technical partnerships
  • Champion engineering health metrics (SLIs/SLOs, DORA, SPACE) and ensure telemetry informs resourcing and priority calls
  • Build and run the cadence: weekly staff, technical deep dives, QBRs, leadership offsites; ensure agendas, narratives, and prereads produce decisions
  • Improve mechanisms that increase visibility, predictability, and accountability (dashboards, scorecards, postmortems, retros)
  • Partner with Technology Operations, Finance, HR, Talent, Procurement, and Program Management on budgets, hiring pipelines, vendor management, and governance
  • Maintain the enterprise technology portfolio and critical path; surface dependencies and resolve crossteam tradeoffs quickly
  • Oversee single point of ownership for initiatives
  • Ensure oversight of tier-1 incidents; ensure incident RCAs drive systemic fixes
  • Apply Agile, Lean, and FastFlow principles to reduce lead time and improve flow efficiency across teams
  • Craft EVPlevel communications: board/exec updates, town halls, technical narratives, and customerfacing materials; ensure messagemarketmetrics alignment
  • Serve as a proxy for the EVP in forums and decision meetings with preagreed authority
  • Represent the EVP, Technology in predefined forums (e.g., initiative reviews, architecture boards) and commit to direction when proposals meet agreed criteria
  • Approvals: Recommend budget tradeoffs and vendor selections
  • Lead changemanagement initiatives in org design, hiring, and culture; model the company's values
  • Foster belonging, psychological safety, candor, and continuous improvement; promote clear ownership and decisionmaking
  • Support the vision and values of the company through role modeling and encouraging desired behaviors
  • Participate in various company initiatives and projects as requested

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar
  • 12+ years in technology roles (Engineering, Architecture, Product/TPM), including operating at senior levels in a 500+ employee tech org
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate technical designs (cloud architecture, data platforms, AI/ML services, security posture), interrogate tradeoffs, and align to strategic outcomes
  • Track record running large crossfunctional programs in ambiguous environments; expert in OKR and portfolio governance
  • Strong working knowledge of Team Topologies and organizing technology teams at scale
  • Exceptional written/verbal communication and influencing skills; high EQ, professionalism, and discretion
  • Handson familiarity with cloud (AWS/GCP), data platforms (e.g., Snowflake), observability (SLIs/SLOs), CI/CD, and container orchestration
  • Experience leading technology review processes; comfort with DORA/SPACE metrics and reliability practices
  • Prior Chief of Staff or similar strategic leadership experience preferred
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future

This role is expected to be in the office 5 days a week.

The job conditions for this position are in a standard office setting. Employees in this position use PC and phone on an on-going basis throughout the day. Limited corporate travel may be required to remote offices or other business meetings and events.

We are excited to get to know you and your background. Concerned that you might not meet every requirement? We encourage you to still apply as you might be the right candidate for the role or other roles at PitchBook.
